| | Pump This!
I drove to work on fumes this morning and stopped at the local station by my job site to fill up. For some reason New Jersey doesn't trust their motorist to pump their own gas. I have always pumped my own gas, not one time driving cross country have I ever had another pump gas for me. I mean it's not brain surgery? Why is it against the law for me to pump my own gas, only in the Garden State? Was there a horrific accident at some local gas station where thousands were killed in an explosion? Were nozzles and hoses being ripped out of the pump as New Jersey drivers drove off with the nozzle still in the tank? I don't get it!
Any who, I get to the gas station and I tell the attendant which I think only has one tooth in his mouth to fill it up with regular and hand him my debit card. He unscrews the gas cap, inserts the card into the machine, selects the grade of gas shoves the nozzle into my tank, squeezes the handle to fill me up, locks it into place, and walks away. It's not like he even needs to watch the pump because when my tank gets close to full the handle shuts off automatically. I'm thinking it's close to full and while I'm waiting my cell phone rings, I answer the phone. I have the phone to my ear and the toothless guy walks up and tells me hang up no cell phones. I look at him like your fucking kidding my right? Of course I've seen the signs at every gas station I've been to.....but who enforces that anyway? Apparently the toothless guy at Exxon. I proceed with my conversation and he walks over to the "no cell phone" sticker next to the pump, I nod and keep talking. He then says if you don't turn off your cell phone I'll stop pumping your gas! At this point I say "Your kidding me right?" and I'm thinking he just threatened me. Then he walked over to the nozzle and stopped pumping my gas. He waited for my receipt to print and handed it to me, Oh yea I'm still on the phone by the way. He then started to walk away and I said "you still have my debit card!" he went back to the machine, got my card, told me to leave, and not come back to his pump. I looked and him and said "whatever" and started to laugh.
I couldn't believe it, I had just been 86ed from a gas station for using a cell phone. I couldn't help but wonder if this toothless guy spends all day 86ing people from his pump because it is the only since of power he has.....I mean he Pumps gas for a living! I kind of feel sorry for the guy.......nope, not really.
Bye for now! |
