  • Dress Pants

    About last week...

So it's been a busy couple of weeks at work.  I have 30 direct reports, so I had to write and deliver 30 reviews.  It's a lot of work, especially when people don't get the review they think they deserve.  In addition to that, we had a major HR issues arise, that has taken my full focus for the las two weeks.  As a result, I have been going into the office more.  I miss it.  I really miss going into an office, pulling out my dress pants and shirts, having lunch with friends.  That's been the unexpected benefit of being so busy.

I was walking through my building last week, in a new outfit from Express (annual winter sale) and realized, it was the first time I had owned a pair of dress pants (not from a suit), since I lost all my weight.  I felt really sexy.  I know that sounds silly...and a little egotistical...but it's how I felt and I really enjoyed the feeling...so much so that I went back and bought a second pair of dress pants.

Doing my share for the economy...

So when E! and I went shopping two weekends ago, everything was on sale.  A couple friends work for Express, so I asked what the deal was.  They explained that most stores did not make their Xmas targets and given the state of the economy, there was a lot of stock left.  I'm seeing examples of that all over the place.  At dinner on Friday night, the restaurant was empty; the mall was empty.  Last night, Home Depot, Lowes and Best Buy were empty...as was the parking lot.

People are saving their pennies...and who can blame them.  The economy is terrible, interest rates are down (can you say refinance) and my 401k tanked for a month.  I feel good though...I'll probably refinance my mortgage; my financial planner and I have a very defensive portfolio...so all in all...I'll ride it out...and take advantage of the sales!!   Cause you know I love me some "additional 25% off" pants!!!  (and a coordinating sweater or two).

Not everyone has to suck it all of the time...

I love Kathy Griffin!! She said the above in one of her shows...and I think it all the time...when I am pissed or grumpy with someone.  And sometimes...everyone can suck it!!!  E! and I decided to buy P&B tickets to see Kathy with us for Xmas.  So this weekend, on Sat., we bundled up in P&B's Santa Fe, and headed to Beacon for a glamorous (not) train ride into NYC.

Metro North is very convenient...but some of the clientèle leaves much to be desired.  Given how loud and boisterous we were on the way home - that may even apply to us.   But I digress...

Once we got into the city, we trekked to the restaurant we had decided on...only to find out that it was gone and had been replaced by a Dave & Buster's.  It's a good thing I planned for a secondary choice...so we hoofed the ten blocks or so south to SEVEN.  We had a wonderful meal, plenty of drinks and laughs galore.

The show was phenomenal!!  Kathy performed for two hours straight, with her usual nasty, venomous wit!!  And we loved it.  The audience was mostly fags and hags, with a smattering of str8 couples thrown in for good measure.  She talked about Britney, Anderson Cooper, Liza Minelli, The Osmond's and Oprah.  Since P of P&B is such an amazing writer, I will just quote from his blog:

"Kathy was fabulous. She had all new material and had us screaming with laughter. From sharing a bed with Liza Minnelli in a Canadian casino to her new relationship with Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak to Brittany to Oprah (best line of the evening - while discussing Oprah's 100 Osmonds show and wondering how racially diverse Utah might actually be - she mimicked one of the Osmond great grandkids saying of Oprah ...'it talks...')"

I had a moment during the show, looking around the theatre, I thought..."Look at all these people, sitting here, enjoying her anti-establishment wit.  People who don't get offended easily and who don't buy into the nonsense of the insane religious-right," and I had hope.  Hope for a more tolerant tomorrow, and hope for a more rational tomorrow.

We arrived home from a wonderful evening around 1:30am...and passed out.

The next morning, I met P&B for brunch at Oriele 9 in Woodstock, NY.  On two separate occasions during brunch, we had the waitress and manager come up and ask us to stay until closing.  We were laughing and having such a good time, they called us, "A good example for the other diners."  That tends to happen a lot.  B shared that when he woke up, he hurt from laughing, so he called to P, "I love our life," to which P responded, "Me too."  I feel the same.  I love my life.  It's fun, it's a little over the top at times, it's not always the most glamorous or fair...but it's a good life and I couldn't imagine it without P&B in it.

    If obsession is a sin...

...let me be guilty!!  This is my new obsession...

Torchwood!!!  This is the spinoff of "Dr. Who" out of the UK.  Written by Russel T. Davies (the creator of "Queer as Folk"), it centers on secret group who hunts down aliens in the 21st century.  At the head of this group, is Capt. Jack Harkness, a former conman and enigmatic man from the future. (From "Dr. Who")  Capt. Jack is bisexual, something all people are in the 51st century, and this fact plays heavily into the show, as it allows for romances and interactions that haven't been explored previously.   The above is a screen capture from one such interaction, between Capt. Jack and Ianto, a member of his team with whom he has a on again off again relationship.

I've caught a few episodes and found it so captivating that I had to buy season 1, which I am about to start watching.  I just watched the second season opener, and although I was guessing all the way (since I haven't watched the first season), I didn't want to miss it...and found it really well done.  Good sci-fi and a lot of fun.

It makes me want to get into the new "Dr. Who" whose first three seasons are sitting in my Netflix queue.  I'll review as I watch!

OK - I have talked a lot...so it's time for me to go back to work...just in time to go to the gym!!  YAY!!!

    Laterz...

Heh.. I've only seen one episode of Torchwood, but it was cool. I have fond memories of the old Dr. Who from when I was little.

Yeah, I'm waiting for that feeling again of buying new clothes after losing weight.  I've done it a couple times before, and I have to do it again now.  I keep saying "I'll start tomorrow....."  Congrats to you for actually doing it.

    Very Cool

Kathy Griffin and sexy pants.  You can't go wrong!  As for mortgages and all that mess....boo.  This is so not the time for me to try and process loans. lol

I watched Jack when he was on Dr. Who. I have yet to watch Torchwood though. I don't understand their obsession with Cardiff. I will get into it soon enough!

I'd like to refinance, but it would drive my mortgage payments up for about a year & a half.  Yeah, I know it would be better in the long run, but if you can't really afford it in the short term it does you no good.   Luckily, my 403b seems to be weathering the storm pretty well.

I miss feeling sexy in new clothes...but boy did the guys at the bars let me know, lol.

I'm so glad you get to go out & have fun like that...it makes me feel better about the times I drag the crew out & about.

RYC: Oy! Nail on the head much?
So how does one fill himself up? I want to be able to not feel like my partner has to completely adore me to be in a relationship. does that make sense?
