These are a few of my favorite things...

Maria Von Trapp, I ain't...but there are two websites that have quickly become my favorites:
    • AfterElton.com:  Whilst I am not a fan of LOGO (The gay television channel), I am a fan of this website that they support.  It's a great way to catch up on any of your favorite gay or with gay character shows, like; Torchwood (you knew I was gonna say it, Project Runway, Make Me a Supermodel (IQ just dropped again), etc.  I read recaps of shows I've never watched, simply because I know they will be funny.  I've started posting comments, as I think it's really a great community.
    • ICanHasCheezburger.com:  I owe finding this site to the lovely and talented oohfloorpie who frequently posts pics from the site on his page.  This is just mindless fun.  People post funny pictures of animals...mostly cats...and then caption them.  An example:
      Funny Pictures
      moar humorous pics
This site is a sure-fire way to pick yourself up on bad day...well if you're like me and you're easy to                       entertain.

    It's official...and it's BLUE...

Netflix and BestBuy have announced their support for the Blu-Ray Format for High-Definition DVD viewing.  So what is Blu-Ray vs. HD DVD??  Well, let's refer to Wikipedia, my favorite online resource for everything.

    What the HELL are they??

Reader:  Gurl, why are you linking me all over the place??
PJ:  Because you can read and it makes no sense for me to cut and paste whole websites.

I find this incredibly interesting.  It's Beta-max all over again.  Except, this time, from my high-level research , it seems that Blu-ray is actually the better format (Beta-max was the better format...but the tapes were too small.  More info here: Beta vs. VHS).  I'm actually happy about this announcement.  As many know, I just bought an HD television for Xmas this year.  I really wanted an HD DVD player, and the lower prices of Toshiba's HD DVD players almost convinced me to purchase one.  The fact that there were two formats really concerned me.  I didn't want to end up buying a Beta-max by mistake.  So I am happy that it seems there will be only one format.  And once the prices drop to a more reasonable level ($300ish is NOT reasonable), I will purchase one.

She got all dressed up to sit in the back!

So E! and I had a GREAT weekend.  It's been gray and blah lately, and with Valentine's Day falling during the week, I thought it would be a great idea to go into the city.  My plan was to go down in the afternoon, get in line at TKTS and see a show.  TKTS for any non-NYers is a booth near Times Square.  You can purchase tickets to shows, (Broadway and Off-Broadway) for that day.  These tickets are usually about 50% off the regular price.  The only catch is that you are stuck with whatever shows they have available for that day...some shows are always there, some are there infrequently or only during the week AND you have to wait in line.

I used TKTS a lot in college.  I went to college close to NYC, so it was easy to see shows on the spur of the moment...and being a college student, they needed to be cheap.  I wanted this to be a positive experience for E! because I want to do it more often, especially as the weather gets nicer.

The line was not too long, we lined up about 30min prior to the booths opened and we got to the ticket booth in about 30min...it was cold, and E! is impatient...but it went quickly.  We had originally planned to see "Altar Boyz," an Off-Broadway musical about a Christian Boy-Band (comedy), but alas that was not to be.  E! wanted to see "Hairspray."  Now, despite the fact that we already had tickets to see the national tour of "Hairspray" that will be coming to Kington, NY ("But PJ, that's the tour, this is Broadway, it's different!!!" says E!)...I said yes.  Remember dear reader, I wanted this to be a good experience for him...since I plan to do this more...it was a calculated decision.  I was not thrilled...I liked the movie, but I really didn't have any desire to see the show...see tickets to national tour above.

So, we got the tickets, and proceeded to have a nice day in the city...a little shopping, a little dinner...and off to the show.  I was nervous...our seats were higher up than I expected.  Sitting in the higher (read cheaper) seats has it's disadvantages...like sitting in front of whiny Middle-American teens whose parents dragged them to see a show.  Once the show started...it flew.  The seats turned out to be not bad at all...from our vantage point, we could see everything and well too!

You know...I'm so glad that we saw the show...and even more excited about our tickets to the tour in Kingston.  The show was better than the movie, with different songs, and you just can't beat the energy of live theatre!  I was so excited after we saw the show, that I dragged E! back to Virgin Megastore, so that we could purchase the cast recording for $10.    E! thought the whole weekend was great - and it clinched my ability to do this again...Go Me!!!

OK - so I am gonna finish working, eat some dinner and head to rehearsal...CHEERS!!!!

    Laterz...

How stellar! Frankly, if someone reading your blog doesn't know about TKTS, I really doubt how good of a friend they are of your's and if you should care about their readership... I kid! (sortof ).

For the record, if you haven't seen AlterBoyz... it's hilarious. There's a reason why it's off-broadway, so obviously go with that in mind, but the sheer delightful campiness of it all is wonderful. I actually really enjoyed a few of the songs (Church Rulez, Epiphany, I Believe) and bought the album off iTunes.

    Sounds like a great weekend!

funny thing is i worked for 10 years near the tkts booth in times square and not once ever waited on line for tickets. i'm not much of a theatre person.  glad you enjoyed the show.  the kids and rob love the musical version of hairspray on dvd. it's a house favorite but i prefer the john waters take myself.

    have a great week mate!

Makes me wonder if Treasure Island Media is going to start producing everything on Blu Ray?
