Almond Joys have nuts...In this case, it's not really a nut, but a picture...Sometimes you just can't do something justice without one. With home-ownership comes an endless list of things that need to be done (and things that you would like to do). On this list are things that sound very simple...but manage to create great excitement. In this case, it's a door. A few months ago, I found myself locked out of my house...taking out the trash. Being cold, in a mood and forgetting that P&B had a key, I decided that the best thing to do was smash one of the little pains of glass. So I did. That was way too easy!!! So easy, that it put my in mind of worrying about being robbed (I had been robbed in Poughkeepsie in much the same manner...while I was home...asleep). So I thought briefly about replacing the glass, but just decided that a new energy efficient door was a better idea. So, until that could be accomplished by a skilled professional, I was stuck with something that looked fresh out of the south Bronx...

This was the original door on the side of the house...it leaked heat, looked like hell and was about as safe as leaving me alone to guard a box of cookies.
Well, while the tag sale was going on, my wonderful contractor...he follows up with me, shows up on time, is a perfectionist about his work and doesn't over-charge...installed my new door...

It's a thing of beauty. It's an energy efficient, STANDARD SIZE, fiber-glass door. The size is important (dur)

because the previous door was smaller...CContractor assured me he could get the new door in, by making the hole larger. (There's all sorts of potential dirty jokes there) He did it and it looks like it was made for that space. It brightens up the entry way, is now large enough to get things though and it's super safe. Every time I walk by it, I get a smile on my face. The next project is a special door to the basement for the kitties.
Mounds don't...Sometimes, a picture is just not necessary. Technology is a funny thing. I'm often saddened when we replace an existing, well running technology with something new, just because it's new. My company is in the process of getting rid of a tool that I use every week.
It runs on a mainframe...and for anyone who's never worked on a mainframe...mainframe applications are not graphical, you can't use your mouse and there are no pictures. You have to know commands and keystrokes. On the upside, mainframe applications like the one I use are fast, user friendly and work well. This application is being replaced with a web version...cause it's the web and we're supposed to use the web. Unfortunately, many web applications are not as well developed as their counterparts on the mainframe. This new web application is slow, requires too many mouse movements and isn't as user friendly. It sucks...and I've complained...but well...that's the way the Peter Paul Cadbury candy crumbles.
And...well...here's a big nut!!
This is one of the promo pics for "All 4 One." Yep, that me, in a wig on the left.

Our picture will be suspended from an overpass in the city of Kingston beginning today!! Woohoo...I am going out at lunch to take a picture.

OK - back to work...
Laterz...

Next time you lock yourself out you're screwed!
@whonose - The beauty of the new door...I can't lock myself out.
You'd so better be posting a pic of the overpass!
Nice door...but I was digging the blue masking tape on the old one.
so dashing you are! you should wear a wig more often
the door is nice. doors and paint are some of the cheapest ways to make you *smile* about your home. congrats on having a good contractor. that's something i could use.
The new door has a handle on the other side. Does it feel weird to open a door the other way? I don't like doors with glass. It's just asking for a smasher. I also don't like ground floor windows. Well ok there's lots of weird house issues I have, but I like the new door. Congratulations on your nut. :)
That's a big improvement, and I'm not talking about the wig
(although you are easily the cutest in that picture)
@apocatim - It's actually the same side - just the pics were taken from different sides. All your issues...I also have - which is why this is the perfect door - it is prepared for all those.
On the topic of issues, I have to confess a bit of apprehension when we replaced our back door with full-length glass. Does anyone else worry about how strong the undead really are? Maybe it's just me...
Fabulous doesn't begin to describe the tag sale. The sun was out, the money was flying, the people were fun - and of course, the cocktails were fierce.
The only problem you and I run into when we are drinking and having "too much" fun is that costume materials are all too accessible. I'm amazed we didn't stage a Sunset Boulevard retrospective with my black velvet yardage.
I was surprised, however, to find L's1980s long white leather earrings in my pocket the next morning - then I remembered my Patty Smyth "The Warrior" performance.
I believe sales actually improved after that.
I need a drink. Surprise.
Love that new door.
Love that handsome pic even more.
