The other day I had the unexpected privilege of walking my neighbor's dog. She called from Fairfax and said she'd be staying with her mother longer than she expected, so could I please get her spare key and walk Jesse? I said, "Sure, no problem."

Here's what she forgot to tell me: this dog is CRAZY. He's about the size of Monty; this little mutt, part Pomeranian, I think...pop-eyes, a ridiculously adorable grin...and springs on his feet. I mean, I got there and he jumped up to my waist. GK (Girl Kitty, one of my neighbor's tabby kittens; the other one is BK for Boy Kitty) looked very confused. (Sort of a combination of, "Hi, who are you?" and "Sorry my roommate's such a nutcase.") Then, after much fumbling with his harness and getting repeatedly licked, I actually took him outside. This is where the real insanity began. Remember seeing those cartoons where a really huge dog--say, a Saint Bernard or a Great Dane--is dragging the person behind him/her by the leash? Yeah. That's what this was like, only I had this tiny little fourteen-pound Pomeranian mutt named Jesse on the end of the leash, barreling down the sidewalk, stopping to mark his territory, then doing his zero-to-sixty-in-point-two-seconds stunt again. For such a little guy, he's very very strong. I was literally getting pulled along behind him. Occasionally he would stop and look back over his...shoulder?...at me, with that grin on his face, as if to say "HIII!!!" "Um, what is it, Jesse? Jesse-boy? Is something wrong?" Cue the sproing and the bounding off across the grass again. Crazy dog. Absolutely bonkers.

Anyway. This evening I got to hang out with my dad for a couple hours, in between the time he gets home (6-ish) and the time my mom gets home (9-ish). We went to Noodles & Co. Fun times. And we were blasting Audioslave on his car stereo and marveling at Chris Cornell's superhuman-ly awesome vocal stylings. And headbanging to "Cochise." Whoo.
