| | We have an oh-em-gee situation here! The show is TONIGHT!! How is the show tonight?! AAAAAH!!! *runs around in little circles, panicking*
...Okay. I'm okay.
Planning for the Day of Silence occured today during Gay-Straight Alliance. We're doing the best we can; there are only five of us and Amy couldn't make it (I conducted the meeting, since I'm second-in-command as the only remaining estrogen in the room). We managed to cover a lot, though; our advisors are going to buy the purple fabric for the armbands; Tom is going to get Levy's permission to run the whole thing; I'm making flyers and speaking cards, and I'm also writing the PA announcement (I might announce it, as well, since the woman who does the announcemens is gonna race right through it in her annoyingly cheerful way; we want it to sound powerful); Orri will be assisting with sign-up at lunch shifts (we still need people to cover A-lunch and B-lunch on Monday); and hopefully Amy can make a large poster to put on the sign-up table. If you'd like to sign up, come to our table outside the cafeteria during lunch on Monday and Tuesday. You can then pick up your armband and speaking cards in the Student Support Center on Wednesday morning before school.
The Day of Silence is this Wednesday, April 21. Here is the explanation for it, as printed on the speaking cards: Please understand my reasons for not speaking today. I am participating in the Day of Silence, a national youth movement protesting the silence faced by lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people and their allies. My deliberate silence echoes that silence, which is caused by harassment, prejudice, and discrimination. I believe that ending the silence is the first step toward fighting these injustices. Think about the voices you are not hearing today. What are you going to do to end the silence? - |
