bay kay she own ness
Way back in the way back, I worked in a Mexican food, cafeteria style restaurant. I was one of the few non-Mexicans that worked there. I did not enjoy managing a restaurant, but I very much enjoyed working with the people and becoming learned in the culture. I learned two things from las mexicanas (besides how to say "the mexicanas" in spanish
) that I shall remember all my life.1) I learned to love the music of Selena y Los Dinos. Esequiel (pronounced ess-see-kel. Isn't that a great name? Ezekiel in Spanish, I guess), my good friend from those days demanded on one occasion that I accompany him to a small night club in Houston. There I got to see Selena perform. This was in 1990 or thereabouts. Even though I was the only Americano in the place, and I could understand only minimally what she was singing about, I fell in love. She was such a gifted performer. She just drew you in and sold the song to you. I went again to see her about a year later. Each time the place was packed with about 500 people that were also crazy in love with her. I've never, ever seen anyone command an audience like her. In February 1995, she filled up the Astrodome, too...but I got to see her twice when she was still playing nightclubs (chalk up another on your growing list of why it's cool to be me).
Over-dubbed with three of her best recordings, this is actual video from her last concert in the Astrodome (almost exactly 12 years ago). I encourage patience as the video begins and ends with excerpts from "My Heart Will Go On" *rolls eyes*
<
2) The second most important thing I learned from the great people of Mexico is how to say "vacation". *see the title of this glorious post of glory*
So that's really all I'm thinking about. Brother, I am short-timing today. Soon I will depart for the Medina River, deep in the heart of Texas.
I will be
away
from the
things of man including
any and all internetsI shall miss you,
but I plan to spend
most of my days
not missing you
I'm sure you understandI shall spend almost all daylight hours sitting on this porch reading books.
<==These people
will not be there
but I mightdepending on
the weather
I
shall
be
this==>
happyI'll be back Sunday night...or never...Monday morning at the latest...unless it's never...

Wow...a vacation? I do hope you enjoy and do not think about anything but rest and fun. You deserve it.
Ah Selena, such a lovely young woman. And such a talent. How exciting for you to get to see her in a bit more intimate setting.
Your bay kay she own ness sounds like perfection. I would love nothing more than to sit on a porch reading books while being surrounded by beautiful scenery. I will now be jealous. *pouts*
Enjoy!
I spent a summer doing VBS in Mexico. I learned how to sing "Jesus loves me" in Spanish (pretty cool) and how to say "sit down and be quiet or we won't give you cookies" (not so cool but very handy).
vacation...
it's all I ever wanted.
Hope you guys have fun and that the weather is perfect!!
Have a great time!
*laughs at ErinAdele's comment, casts a knowing looking toward GReggo- they apparently share the lure of the cookie*
Ms. Dixie - I laughed at ErinAdele's comment, too. I laughed picturing GReggo learning how to bribe children in so many languages
To all of you kind well-wishers...
no really, that leather couch was made by a Fire Spirit from the Orion nebula. It got sucked into a black hole and, long story short, ended up in a cabin in west Texas. I mean who else but an Orieen fire spirit could make a couch that survived being infinitely diminished?
have a good trip my friend.
Ahhh...if only we could *all* be THAT happy again! :)
Ohav Shalom,
Jamie
Miss ya!
