I am the hawk and there's blood on my feathers
There's this totally awesome hawk that hangs around the church. I saw him early one morning last week. He was sitting atop a chain link fence in the back and I carefully walked to within 10 ft of him. He wouldn't look directly at me, kinda looked at me out of the corner of his eye. All of the sudden, he calmly soared off the fence away from me but he looked back with a face that said, "I just happen to be flying away right now, I'm certainly not leaving because I'm scared of you, Squanto." His expression really did speak that too. I don't know why he thought I was Native American, but he sure wasn't scared of me. It was pretty glorious to be that close to him.
A day or so later, the hunter and I were out in the Wedding Field and we saw the hawk perched way atop one of the streetlights in the parking lot. Soon we were able to discern the reason he was hanging around the church. He must of escaped from the Ft. Worth zoo and he wanted to avenge himself on L17 for feeding him osprey food by mistake.Of course, I quickly confronted the birdman about this and he assured me that this was impossible. He hasn't worked at the zoo in months and he would never feed osprey food to a hawk.
You know? Even though L17 is much younger than me, he certainly knows more about birds than I do. He knows more about birds than you do for that matter. He is infamous for his wise in his wisdom knowledge of bird facts knowledge. I believe him.
But I don't know how to convince the hawk...
For the time being, I'll continue to adore the hawk from afar and try to protect gary from unwarranted attack.
And all of those who see me, all who believe in me
Share in the freedom I feel when I flyAU~out

I love "The Eagle and the Hawk"
Come dance with the west wind and touch on the mountain tops
Sail o'er the canyons and up to the stars
And reach for the heavens and hope for the future
And all that we can be and not what we are
he may just be keeping watch over the wedding field...
Eric told me about that hawk the week before last, and sure enough, last Saturday I saw him.
Pretty amazing, huh?
Ooh!
A John Denver quote. I love that.
Did he have blood on his feathers?
I forgot to tell you that we have an eagle that comes to our tree by thw creek every year,he is so majestic!
@seedsower - I knew you'd like our own John Denver! Rumor has it that he was rejected as a performer at Six Flags Over Texas way back in the day and then he went Big Time writing Leaving On A Jet Plane for Peter, Paul & Mary. Who knows?
@greggorant - It's always nice to hear from you. Whadyathink? Wedding Field? The Field of Wedding? Verbindungs-Feld des Grafen?
@darabrat - He's so majestic! Or she, I guess *shrugs*
@iamdixiedydo - I'm sure he did. That's what he does, you know.
I just got an email from your dad who googled me.
I told him I gave you a business card.
He googled me.
I think that is awesome.
I got to watch him Friday evening. He was so close to my car and i didn't want to scare him. He was on the ground by the island of trees on the west parking lot. The smaller birds were swooping over him and he was ducking with each swoop. I felt sorry for him because it seemed he didn't realize he was so much larger than they. Suddenly he was air bound and went to that back corner light to perch. It was truely awesome to watch him. I hope he stays for a while.
Not a good summer to be a church mouse....
I think he should be our mascot. that is, I would like to invite him to our wedding as an honored guest. I hope he accepts.
@sheep04 - YEA! We could be the Hebron Hawks!!!.... oh wait... that sounds familiar... a little TOO familiar...
i'll be sure to keep a lookout for him when we're on the playground tonight!
@settlers_fan - Please notice how you can't hide in the tall weeds on the playground anymore...
I love the hawks. I serve them a rodent breakfast buffet each morning. Unintentionally of course.
I hope I get a chance to see this hawk next time I'm near the Wedding Field (which is an appropriate name, btw).
