London, Sep 25: English actress Billie Piper, who began her career as a pop singer in her teens and is now best known for portraying Rose Tyler, in the hit television series 'Doctor Who', has revealed how her teenage anorexia led to suicidal thoughts.
While speaking about her illness for the first time she said that had also started taking laxatives in an effort to lose more weight, and had started contemplating suicide.
?I'd read an article in a magazine about anorexia and think, 'Ooh, I'll do. For me it wasn't about looking better. I wanted to be in control,? the Daily Mail quoted her, as saying.
?I didn't feel qualified to or ready to talk about it until I was really, really well this year. I didn't want to say, 'Oh poor me', and be known for all that - then start losing weight again,? she added.
She further claimed that the eating disorder started because she was intensely unhappy with her appearance.
"I was never as pretty as the other girls were. My features were always too big - my jaw was too heavy, my mouth too wide," she said.
However, Piper, who at the age of 15 became the youngest British singer to secure a number one single, has claimed to have fully recovered from the illness.
