Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds...

Apathy & Cheese

I thought Sky Captain was extremely silly. But in a fun way.  We cracked up a bunch, and the last line was great. Trying to balance the movie quality and the entertainment value, I'll give it a B-.

Pixar's seventh film opens in theaters today. Cars. That has to be one of the most original titles ever. Anyways, ever since I saw the teaser trailer when I watched The Incredibles, I've been apathetic and disinterested in it.  The trailers just weren't very funny.

Cars will be the first Pixar movie that I have no desire to see in theaters.  The alternate world of just cars doesn't appeal to me. It's hard to relate.  Plus, I am not a big fan of nascar or even cars in general. I mean, I don't even have my darn driver's license yet.

The critics seem to be confirming my opinion of Cars. Good, but not up to the normal Pixar standard. Currently, Cars has 73% positive reviews. Compare that to the 100% of Toy Story & Toy Story 2, 98% for Finding Nemo, 97% for The Incredibles, 95% for Monsters, Inc., and 91% for A Bug's Life. Of course, all in all, Cars probably is still solid entertainment and just suffers in comparison.

Now, unlike Cars, I am quite enthusiastic about Pixar's next project... Ratatouille.

Out in theaters in June 2007, Ratatouille is about a rats. And they talk. Well, the official synopsis is... "The story is of a rat named Ratatouille who lives in a upmarket Parisian restaurant run by an eccentric chef."

The trailer, while not as good as some of Pixar's others, is oh so much more entertaining than Cars' teaser. Here's the trailer site... http://www.apple.com/trailers/disney/ratatouille/

Chuck took me and ALL the kids to see "Cars" last night at the new Rave.  The animation and sound track were very good, but it's distinctively "southern".  I can't see it playing well all over the country.  I'm not a NASCAR fan, so it was a bit of a strain, despite the sweet story line, great character voices, and underlying character teaching.  Coincidentally, we were trying to rank our favorite pixar movies in order last night, so I find it interesting that your critic's % thing goes in the same order that I would place them.  However, I did like "Cars" better than "Bug's Life", which I found annoying.  For younger children, I'd put it right behind "Nemo", because "Incredibles" and "Monsters" were a little scary.  See you soon. ~Miss Sandy

I didn't like Sky Captain.  I actually paid to watch it in theater.
