  • Success in God's Eyes - Bible Reading!

About 6 months ago or so, I resolved to read through the Bible  from cover to cover again.  It had been a few years since the last time.  I would rather look up verses I hear or look up a topic in the back and look up all verses related to that topic but decided that I needed to reread from beginning to end again.  I usually get bogged down somewhere in Leviticus or Numbers but this time it wasn't  to bad.  I gave myself a specific amount that I wanted to cover each day.  Usually 3 chapters unless I felt I should read more.  This worked great until I hit Psalms.  For some reason, Psalms can only be appreciated slowly.  I slowed down to 1 or 2 chapters in Pslams because they relate so well to everyday life.  There are so many times that a single verse will just minister to me so well.  So, this time through, Pslams gave me much food for thought.  I was also able to share several verses with DH as he was facing some trials at work as well.

However, for the past few weeks I have been reading in the book of Jeremiah.  And I am able to see such a correlation to life today.  You wouldn't think so, Jeremiah took place such a long time ago but I feel that it is so relevant to this day and age.  There is a wonderful blog that I read and she touched on this very thing a few days ago that made me think of this post.  God calls us to do things that we don't always want to do.  Either it takes us out of our comfort zone or we are afraid or we consider what the world would say not God.  God wants us to obey him and put him first.  When we do this, the rewards are tremendous.  I think we get confused because the rewards are not always in this life time.  Sometimes they can be the reward of eternal life.

I guess what this rambling post about it...

God does not measure success like people.

What made me think of this was...

Jeremiah was one of the most successful people in the Bible in God's eyes.  This is because he always did what God told him to do.  For 40 years he was the prophet that told the people of Israel what to do.

    Did they listen?

      NO

Did they turn from their wicked/evil ways?

    NO

He told the people what God wanted, it was their choice to disobey and turn their back on God.  They only wanted God to bless what they wanted to do.  They didn't want to do what God wanted them to do.

I guess we always think of the big name guys as the successful ones...  David, Abraham, Isaac, Joseph, Elijah, and Elisha plus all the others.

I think Jeremiah sets a wonderful example

We don't have to make a big splash to do what God wants us to do.

We just have to do it!!
