It's good to be busy, right? Yeah, I'll just keep telling myself that. I can't believe how this week has flown by.
Last weekend I breezed into Atlanta for my sister's baby shower on Sunday. [I don't know if "breezed" is an appropriate word to use when describing ANY action taken by a pregnant woman with 4 children in tow, but you get the idea.] She got all manner of cool stuff. It's amazing how they are always coming up with new baby gear. She got a couple of these nifty, little, fleece swaddlers. . .Kinda like a blanket that velcros. . .or a baby straight jacket. I'd never seen one, and I only had my last baby 21 months ago. Anyway, they looked very handy for the newborns that like to be wrapped like a burrito.
We rushed back into town on Monday, b/c it was trick or treat day, which is a big deal in our house. Tons of neighborhood and church friends met at 6:30 a couple streets over. For the first time in 8 yr (since we had kids), I got the kids ready and sent them with Papa Bear. I did spare him the dreaded double stroller, by keeping Natty Baby home with me.
I was in a panic all night, on the phone, trying to find substitute teachers for Learning Grove. . .for the next morning. I was a total basket case by the time I got off the phone at 10-something on Monday night. Papa Bear and I fussed at eachother. I don't think we should be allowed to talk to eachother, when we're that tired.
On Tuesday morning, I taught 4 periods of Spanish, in addition to supervising recess (50 kids), giving the November hall mom a run-down of her duties, and doing my normal clean-up routine. I did find someone to sub the music class 4th period, since one of my "permanent hall mom" capabilities is NOT being in 2 places at one time.
Oh, I forgot to mention that Tuesday (Learning Grove day) was also Buddy's 7th B'day. I invited a few friends at L.G, bought a cake on the way home, called another friend in the neighborhood, tried to rest for a little while, and then we headed to Chuck E. Cheese's for dinner. Fun was had by all.
Today there was nothing on the calendar (can I get a "Hallelujah!"). The goal was to regroup, do school work, and get the house somewhat straightened up. I think we accomplished those goals. And as an added bonus, we had a delightful fall day. I sure do talk about the weather a lot lately. But the fact is that it affects my life greatly these days. The kids played outside a lot today, which is a beautiful thing, when you live in a small house.
I think that I typically do more work on my "rest days," than I used to do (pre-lots-of-little-people) on my "busy days." I always think about my friend whose Mom had 6 kids. She was fond of saying, "Cleaning up, when the kids are around, is like shoveling the sidewalk when it's still snowing.". .an Erma Bombeck quote, I think. That philosophy breaks down in my house. . .It never stops snowing. ;)
