JU-JU's NEW DO

Yesterday, I actually had this thought, while sitting on the couch:  "Hmm, Julia's been gone for too long.  Surely, she's not still using the bathroom."  She's been known to get herself into all manner of mischief in the bathroom.  She is a lover of lotions and ointments and make-up (oh my).  She has even passed on her evil habit of finger painting the mirror with liquid soap to Natty-Baby.

Anyway, I was waiting for her to return, because I'd promised to read her a few books.  She finally meandered out nonchalantly.  Approximately 3 seconds later, I noticed that an entire section of hair was missing from the left side of her head.

I don't remember saying it, but Julia told me today, that I said, "Oh my gosh!  Julia Eve, did you cut your hair?". . . Sort of a dumb question to ask.   I went into the bathroom, and a bundle of hair lay neatly in the trash.  Then I did what I always do, when I'm feeling overwhelmed.  I called Papa Bear:  "Hey is there any way you can come home early today, so I can take Ju-Ju to get a haircut, because she just cut a chunk of hair off the left side of her head?"  He explained that it was Sunday, and there probably wouldn't be any place opened.

I got off the phone, and sensing my irritation, Julia started rambling, "Please don't tell Daddy that I made a mess on the counter."

"Julia, Daddy's not going to care so much about the mess on the counter (there was less than when he shaves his head or trims his beard), as much as the fact that YOU CUT YOUR HAIR OFF."

Knowing that there was no possibility of getting a haircut, and that she had a doctor's appointment at 9:30 the next day, I did what any level-headed, multi-tasking mom of many would do.  I gave her a bob.  After a lot of "STAND STILL.". . .And "stop moving your head.". . And "what the heck am I doing; I don't know how to cut a bob.". . She had a new hair-do.

And I have to say, that it's kind of growing on me.  I think the haircut suits her.  We washed it last night, and it dried even nicer.  It's cropped close in the back, with almost her whole neck exposed, and I made it come down a little longer in the front.  The only problem is that the side SHE cut is a little bit shorter than my side, but I wasn't going to hack randomly around like she did.  So she has a touch of an 80's bi-level thing happening.  Anyway, it could be worse.  She left the bangs fully in tact, and she left the front piece to her jaw bone, which I kind of used as a guide.  So it still has the shape of Ju-Ju hair.  I'm glad she didn't do it on the bangs to the scalp, like my friend's son did a few weeks ago.  Of course, she just gave him a buzz, but I'm digressing now.

I can't say that I'm really surprised.  If I had to guess which of my kids would pull a stunt like this, it would totally be the Ju-Ju-Monster.  So it's kind of funny, that her hair isn't THAT different in length from that profile picure above (I think she was 2 in the pic --she'll be 4 in January).   Five or six inches came and went, without me ever posting a picture.  Spare me your analysis of the unphotographed, 3rd kid's plea for attention.  She can save it for her therapist. ;)

Camryn talked Kiernan into cutting her hair one day.... about a month or less before my sister's wedding..... she was the flower girl.    By the wedding, it looked really cute, but I sure did freak out!  Have a great day! ~Lori

Heh. I'd make Ace wear it like that for a day, but she's 11 and knows better. She went through a period where she would cut a bit off of her hair. The most interesting thing she ever did (at 9 years old) was color "make-up" on her face with Crayola markers - right before church. They are washable, but not instantaneously so..... Man, did she look frightening that morning! I cut Ace's hair, so it is always slightly uneven, but then, when is that child's head ever still? No one would notice about the hair cut. heh.

I'm sorry if her episode stressed you out, but it totally made my day! hee? Great laugh. I'll admit though, that it's only a matter of time before Adam takes scissors to his hair or worse - his sister's beautiful curls. Anyway . .. again (as usual) I'm proud of you for taking charge and being a great multi-tasking mom. yay, you!

Well I'm not sure which is worse. My girls gave their American Girl dolls haircuts!  And that hair doesn't grow back. Eldest is now saving up for a new head as she's decided maybe she made a mistake when she was 7 and cut it off...

Supermom to the rescue! I love that you could make a wrong a right and not let it turn into something that was not salvagable. That is excellent!

My third child is the one who cut her Barbie's hair at the same time as she cut her own, and then cried when we told her hers would grow back, but Barbie's wouldn't.  My eldest cut hers a time or two as well.  It must be a girl thing, although I don't remember ever doing it.

LOL! How does she like her new do? I tried cutting David's hair once- it didn't turn out so good. It's a bit more difficult then it looks. So I know firsthand what a super-mom you must be to have fixed it well. ;)

So...where are the pictures? ;)
