The body is tired, but today was a good day.  Nice, slow Saturday.  Did lots of laundry.  After work, Papa Bear brought us home dinner and read the conclusion of "My Side of the Mountain" to the kids.  So good.  I'd never read it before.  His teacher read it to him in 4th grade, and it made quite an impression on him.

Bananna and I should be able to finish "Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm" in the next sitting.  It (My Side of the Mountain) was a nice change of pace, for Buddy. . . to hear something not so 'girly.'  Since Bananna is oldest, I often gear much of our read aloud to her (American Girls, Little House series, Anne of Green Gables, The Little Princess, Little Women, PollyAnna. . .All things we've read recently).  Papa Bear said maybe he'll read "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe" to them over the next couple weeks, before we go to the movie.  I read it to them once a few years ago, but they were very young, and you can't have too much Narnia, now can you?

Tomorrow will be busy and hopefully fun.  We'd like to go get the trampoline after church. . .We also don't have a tree yet.  May be overly ambitious to try to do both.  There's also a Christmas carol service at church tomorrow night, that I want to go to.  We'll see what we can squeeze in.

Hope everyone's having a nice weekend. :)

You enjoy reading aloud to your children, too? You might want to get a sonlight catalog for some book ideas. They have read alouds in them, and we've discovered some really great books we might not have picked up otherwise. They also tend to be books (for the most part) that appeal to both sexes. (We have read some girlish books, though, that, to my surprise, even my J loved.)

Hate to sound like a commercial -- and really I'm not trying to get you to use their curriculum, just suggesting it as a source for great book ideas. We read a couple of books like Twenty and Ten and The Family under the Bridge last year that really stood out, and I never would have even known about them had I not discovered them through Sonlight.

Just a thought, for what it's worth.

I have been dreaming of a trampoline.  I'd get my cardio every day!  Have a beautiful Sunday.

I loved "My Side of the Mountain." There's a good video of it as well, btw. The 2nd Little House book, the one about Almanzo growing up, would be good for the boy I think.  I kind of miss those reading aloud days. It was fun to re-read my old favorites and discover new ones (like the Betsy-Tacy stories my girls loved).

We just saw Narnia yesterday, it was *amazing*...I wouldn't recommend taking your 2 littlest ones though, there are a few scenes in there that can cause some pretty good nightmares. But good, good movie.

I loved Pollyanna growing up. Books and movies.

Did you ever hear of the Fudge series? I don't remember the author...but I remember my 4th grade teacher reading them to us and they were the funniest books.

I don't have a tree yet either. I keep saying that I'm gonna do the Christmas thing-the decorations and all, I just can't seem to get a move on it.

Or laundry, but I'm sure you can understand how one would delay on that front ;)

If I had a trampoline, I can't imagine ever doing anything else with my time!

I haven't been to a movie in so long....guess I'll wait until it comes out on home media.  So glad the kids are feeling better.  My cough is better as well.  It seems that it is at least a dry cough now which sounds somewhat less offensive.  SS went well this morning, we studies a couple of chapters of Romans.  We are not having SS on Christmas day, but we are having church.  Just one service.  Therefore, lunch on Christmas day will be a little late. (Like it isn't always "late")

Hope Beth is feeling OK....what is expected delivery date?

The Little Prince is one of my favorites, along with Julie of the Wolves and Island of the Blue Dolphins. Don't know how old your kids are - these might be a little advanced. I do love the Narnia series! I ought to go back and read it for myself again.

I'm gonna check out "my side of the mountain". We, too, want to re-read LW&W before we see the movie. Have you seen the most recent version of "A Little Princess" (starring Liesel Mathews)? It's sooooooo good!! Bring out the kleenex, popcorn and chocolates and make a night of it!

ryc: yeah . .due date is Wednesday. . . . I'm excited and anxious. I hope the baby comes soon. BUT I also can't help but feel apprehensive because Jasmine was 11 days late and I really really don't want to be late. I'm SOOOOO ready for this pregnancy to be over. I don't want any more pregnancy stress and I'm ready to suffer through "mom of three little ones" stress.

Sounds like a really good and full weekend.  I am looking forward to being able to read some of the classics to my children,  at this point it is still a bit over thier heads.  They do enjoy reading, but we are still in the 'I can read' books and the 'Little golden Books' stage.

"What is that contraption Mommy is holding and why does she want me to be still?"

I think Stitch and Nat got together on this one.
