Night Owls Reform and Summer Upon Us!

Tonight Anna announced that she was tired and went to bed at 7:20.  We've done standardized testing for the last two days with some of the folks from our homeschool group.  When we get home at around lunch time, I rest (while Luke is napping), but I'm the only one.  Keeping the nursery kiddos (kids of the testers) for 3 hours wears me out!  And for three days in a row, we've gone to the pool, in the late afternoon/evening.  Natalie fell asleep all curled up in her chair at the kitchen table (no batteries in the camera!), about 5 minutes after Anna voluntarily tucked herself in.  I had to chase Julia and Caleb to bed a little later, but Julia was weepy-tired.  Caleb is on his top bunk with his nose still buried in an Encyclopedia Brown library book.  Apparently, he doesn't need as much sleep as the rest of us.

Tomorrow's the last day of testing, and our summer will have officially begun.  I agonized a bit over the decision to send the older kids to school next year.  Now I find myself REALLY excited to be handing off that responsibility.  Next year any books we read together, projects we undertake, or educational field trips we go on are just BONUS!

Happy Summer!

We intend to send our oldest to school next year too. We have six and like to homeschool the first year and middle school. I drive truck and my wife stays at home with the kids. Guess who has the toughest job? As we are moving, though, (to the Dallas area from MD) we will make the final decision when we choose a home and find out how the schools are. Good luck, and enjoy your summer.

Man, that's the one thing I really miss about school, being off in the summer. :(

Testing is always stressful! I am sure it will feel good when it is all out of the way. Ah! Summer!

We just finished the garden yesterday and put down soaker hoses so we can water in the middle of the night.  This dry heat is drying out all the flower beds and the grass is brittle.  I hope you are staying cool.  Gdad and I are going to his high school class reunion this weekend in Auburn --- should be fun.

One more week of school for us.....hard to believe!!  Even harder is the fact that Daniel will start real school next year!!!  We are headed to Six Flags on Memorial Day....they have a new water park called Skull Island so we are looking forward to that.  Give all the kiddos hugs from us!

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your thoughts. Is everybody okay? Is the stomach flu going around or was it a 1 time thing? THAT (throw up and all it entails) is one of the hardest parts of mothering for me. Does everybody usually catch it if one child starts throwing up? Ugh.

RYC: I really don't know what the right thing is to do, which is one reason we leave our family planning completely up to God. I often make my requests known to Him (usually that I would like more babies) but it is ultimately in His hands. Chad and I both felt way too stressed trying to control when or if we had anymore kids. We've never heard of anyone regretting having one or more of their children, it was always the other way around- looking back they wished they had more. We didn't want to live with that kind of regret so we leave it up to Him! I have no idea if He'll ever give us anymore babies, I know He can close wombs just as quickly and easily as He can open them! I know many many people who suddenly couldn't have anymore children because of natural causes when they were wanting and expecting to be able to have more. I don't know why He's given me this desire to be a mother of many children, and that may subside! It's not something that consumes me or anything, but I definately get excited at the thought of having a big(ger) family. But ultimately it's in God's hands. I have a feeling He's given me this desire for a reason (especially since 99% of people feel the OPPOSITE, lol) but if we never have another child, that's fine too. It helps that I know many families IRL who have 5 or more children and are raising them in the way we intend to. They are amazing, calm, wonderful families and I don't think anyone can look at them and not acknowledge they are greatly blessed. But a lot of that is up to the parents and how we RAISE our children. If we don't do a good job, our kids won't be blessings, lol.

Anyway, you thought YOU were rambling on- not at all! Sorry to go on and on. Just wanted to kindof clarify or explain how we got here. Thanks again for writing!
