  • Computer illiteracy a generation thing?

In our house, I am quite the contrary to being a useful hand, and normally when family call me to do my slavery work, I frequently finish feeling stupid and as if I am left with unsatisfactory accomplishments of the things assigned to me. Or in the case of practicality, I will sometimes do the most opposite of being practical (okay, a little bit exaggeration there), and tend to waste precious money, time or resources. In doing outside errands, my parents always ask my brothers to do it, with the fear of me being held up or mugged, which I think made me fear the streets more. So in a nutshell, my family members, especially my parents sometimes make me feel like I am really that youngest, naive child who has no idea whatsoever yet of the reality I am living in. But when it comes to handling the computer, that's when I have an inner laugh, and pat myself on the back and tell myself, you're not completely stupid, you can beat them at this game! Okay, so this only applies to my parents, since my brothers may be more technologicaly skilful than me. Boo!

So when my parents use the computer, you can only count the times on your fingers that they relied on their own independence to use the computer. It's always: "Ron, what happened with the window?" or "How do you go back to your mail home?" even though I like told 'em so many times. So I am thinking, what is up with that? They have been using it for so long, then why do they always seem like those oldies in the computer cafes asking the help of the cashier? Is it really a generation thing, where my parent's generation wasn't built for the use of technological advances? It's just not with the computer mind you. Sometimes they can get confused with the remote functions, cellphone menus etc. Did we, as the latest generation grew a gene for technological handling, unique only to the latter generations?

But what do I know, there may be many factors that contribute to this "computer illiteracy" like not having enough time on their hands or something to learn the functions or tecnicalities of gadgets and such. Well as far as me being just an amateur blogger, without any reliance of any scientific/psychological critics audience, my theory should still be considered.

Yeah. My parents are like that rin especially my dad, he can't even turn the computer on. lol. I think that given they weren't exposed to these things when they were young and yeah, they're exposed to it now but they focus more on other things like family or whatever, that's why, some of them are not really familiar with latest technology...

totally right. But you know, I know this is evil but, I sometimes take their technological illiteracy some kind of comedy for me. haha. Like this one time, my mom panicked (and i mean a little hint of being mad) because her mail window disappeared, but it appeared she only minimized it. haha
