  • Recovering...

The long weekend was very nice - almost need another day to recover from it but then it would make me feel even more lazy.

It all started on Friday to celebrate Jason's birthday in NY on a party boat and it was better than expected. There was a lot of dancing and big girls, and I mean BIG girls. Saturday was an easy going day. Jerry and I went to Staten Island Botanical Gardens as our way to take advantage of the beautiful weather. It was a nice garden even though not everything was in full bloom. We saw the different stages of our lives during our visit at the gardens. A couple taking their wedding photos, another couple with a toddler just learning to walk, another couple with 3 children of different ages, and an elderly sassy couple. After the gardens, we got hungry, and waffles were on my mind for weeks. We tried out Brownstone's Diner in Jersey City with Wil, but I ended up ordering pancakes because it's also known as the Pancake Factory - and yes, I tried out the place because it was featured on Food Network. They were some tasty and HUGE pancakes. Sunday was a full day at church.

Yesterday was much needed quality time with Jerry and then going to his brother's house for BBQ. They grilled SO much food and I ate to the point it hurt. The food just snuck up on me, it kept coming but it was ALL good. I can pack it in, but I never ate to the point I felt pain before. It was not pleasant, at all. His nieces are getting big, but I was more amazed by the youngest one who all of sudden became really chatty. The last time I saw her was 6 months ago where she didn't want to talk to anyone except for her parents and aunt. His oldest niece is sweet as I remembered her. I played some Wiii games with her, where she beat me in tennis and bowling, but I redeemed myself with an emphatic victory in boxing. I wasn't going to let her beat me in that...7 years old or not!

School is starting up this week and I didn't realize what I was getting myself into as I'm reading the syllabi and cringing as I remember the classes run from now through August. I'm not going to have much of a summer, work, school, training and repeat. But at least I'll be done with all of my core courses for the program after this semester, hopefully I can breathe a little easier after this summer. Tomorrow I have a full day of reading and listening to lectures before capoeira practice.

My boxing shorts arrived today! I broke them in during practice and noticed first hand how bright the pink flames are - it's almost obnoxious. Not girly obnoxious because it doesn't have glitter lettering, but it's femmy obnoxious, but they're my first pair of thai shorts. They'll always be special to me.

Pictures from the weekend soon to come...hopefully for the next update.
