The sun was shining, and obviously I don't know how to use my camera in it. I should of been on the other side of Jaslyn. I should of also checked my images as I went and I would of realized perhaps that I was standing in the wrong place. Instead I was concentrating on lining up images in the bright LED screen.
Aunt Priscilla even took her mask down so she could smile for me. Her dear Aunt was wiping every place her little hands would go and even her little 'seat' to make sure no germs were there. Much easier now days that you can get clorox wipes in a container. I teased that I would suggest to her the jungle gym with its many hand holds.
While she recently had a blood transfusion her count is low so precautions must be taken.
She is a sweet child, and oh so tiny. Her mother is also a small stature. Her brother was chasing after the remote hummer running down the walk with his friend. I tried to get a picture but the hummer was faster and out of the frame. I told hub if I tried to operate it every tree would have a dent in it.
Grandpa Ernest was showing me an album with all the, well not all, the cards she has received. The doll with handmade dress, bonnet and even undies was so pretty but I can never remember how to tell knitted from crochet. He explained the lap quilt there took 3 different people. Squares from out of state and a local woman assembled it and the gentleman standing there put the whole thing in the works. Kids are cold during chemo.
Ernest also talked how hard it was to see so many children like Jaslyn, and spoke of a little boy he just got to know who died in 3 months. I wish more people would get involved with sending postcards or cards to children in cancer programs. Kids love to get mail.
The highlight of my day was the Bloodmobile that accepted a pint from me to help replace what Jaslyn has used. It made hub nervous, he still remembers years ago when I almost passed out after giving, forgetting I successfully gave before my back surgery. He did indicate he is going to go to the main office and have further testing done on his as he misses giving blood. He always did, but one year a hepatitis titer came back positive and they figure it was either in error or the result of vaccinations he took prior to going overseas. He's not had hepatitis.
We also talked on the way home about the turkey his work will probably be giving employees again. We want this family to have ours.
There was a 'piggy bank' type of jar there for donations strictly for Jaslyn. She got $75 in it and when I last saw her she was looking for her brother to give him some of it. A heart as big as gold in that child! Learned from the beautiful family.
Send me an email if you want to send her a postcard, or go on over to her Grandpa's web page and it is posted there too. http://www.ernesthernandez.com/jasupdate.html |
