May 08, 1794, The United States Post Office was established. Anyone know how much postage cost then?

It is 93 degrees out there and hub and I just got in from mulching my pots and planting a new speckled caladium I bought while there. He kept saying come back out when it cools down. My reply, "Survivor night".  Which he didn't understand at all!

As for yesterday's grumble. If after 11 years on our city Animal Control Advisory Board and all the years of animal rescues I had the answer for those who think dogs and cats have to have a litter before spayed, if those who think it is OK to let their animals free roaming, and all the other stupid pet stuff, I'd market it and make a mint.

I sincerely believe that all back yard breeders are not interested in pet care and most of them really are more interested in money. That includes bird breeders!

Most parrots go through at least 3 homes before they stay. I am Pookie's second home and I hope he can live his mean little parrot life here forever.

That's his rescue story.

Am I suggesting we don't post pet pictures? Heaven's no. I do it, I like looking at them. I do not like to see them on our morning TV adoption show. Mainly because I know the humane groups here do little to make sure it is a good home the animal is going to.

I also don't like to see wild animals displayed as darling little cubs with little warning they are not good pets! That's another story for another day.

That is why I put my very old cat down when she was suffering, why I keep only one cat now who is neutered and never fathered a litter, why I don't get a dog though I yearn for one....I know my limits right now, I have a child of almost three and one of just 7 and they are all I can handle by myself. I once had a budgie and I loved that bird. She ate a piece of aluminum foil from one of my mom's cigarette packs and died. It was a very sad time for me.

I'm too much of an animal lover.  If I could, I'd take in every stray!
