| | Off I went today to talk to the apartment manager. Before leaving I talked to hub about why I had decided not to pay her meager little apartment rent. 1. we didn't know what her family wanted to do, 2. we didn't know if she had the money in her bank account when and if she got her checkbook, 3. I don't think she will ever be back. We really don't have this kind of money to throw away either.
I suspected correctly that I could not get her mail nor could apt. mgr. let me in to get her checkbook. I'm not family.
I learned some things though. As I introduced myself and told of why I was there the lady shook my hand warmly and was so grateful someone cared enough about GT. I later learned why. Apparently out of town Grandson doesn't want anything to do with this so Adult Protective Services made the arrangements to put her in the nursing facility. (I hate to use the word nursing)
I also learned the facility sent GT by van with a so called advocate from the facility to get some of her things. GT was wearing a dirty hospital gown, no robe and was a bit confused about paper work to give permission for someone to have access to her apartment. She signed the first name of the 'caregiver' and that isn't legal either.
The apartment manager ordered the so call advocate out of her office due to her attitude and demands. Further poor GT has apparently signed her SSI over to the nursing facility so even if I carried her checkbook to her there wouldn't be any funds.
Grandson will be back in town on the 2nd and I left my name and phone number for him for anything he may wish for me to do to be of assistance. He is protecting his ill mother (GT's daughter) from GT. Apparently past conversations have been argumentative. I can understand this, my relationship with my mother is not argumentative but she has upset me plenty of times. The lady nice to me may not have been to family.
I doubt I hear from him and my 'job' will be simply to visit and old lady left to die. Leaving the apartment office where the once funny bumper sticker "Be kind to your kids they will pick out your nursing home" is no longer funny. |
