Does anybody know what these are?  They are planted up at our bus center and heaven forbid the designers ever think of putting something there to identify all the plants.

Not that bus riders would have time to stoop and read, but they could of posted a list inside the building because the security guy said people are always asking.  He also said they had a bunch more plants when the Governor was coming for the dedication and that those got tossed afterwards.  Another great use of your tax dollars.

Speaking of which, a pool friend continues to send me the emails about the misspent funds by the victims of Katrina. You know all those stories circulating.

I wrote back when our Congress people get rid of the pork in the budgets, stop building bridges and roads unecessary, stop running flags up and down the pole so they can send them back home, halt the waste in every government entity, then I will start worrying about the rumor mill on the poor folks that still want their cold beer even though they have no home, or the dollar or two they spend on lottery tickets.

I also reminded her about the number of office workers that replenish their home supply of pens, paper, paperclips etc.

It's not that it pleases me that people abuse money rendered in a needed time. I just can't do diddly squat about it, so not a lot of sense in forwarding the complaining emails. Don't tell me to write my congress either. See above.

And a big thank you to Jade Angel for correcting my stab at the Frapper link button!

See, the only people who crochet (it was crochet- I didn't watch it, but w/ crochet you can make weirder shapes) that kind of stuff that much just do it to be crazy.

And they are. And they get in the news.

Hmm . . .

I agree with you about the Katrina stuff... I'm sure that there is some inappropriate spending going on but that is no reason to smear hundreds of thousands of people or to begrudge them aid when billions of dollars of pure port spending is wasted every year. I feel far more resentment of the Alaskan pigs who want to waste almost a quarter of a billion dollars of tax money on an idiotic bridge to nowhere. (It would be cheaper to buy every single family on that island their own personal Lear jets for transportaion.) Did you see the vote in the Senate yesterday? Only 13 senators voted for Sen. Coburn's proposal to redirect the highway bill pork towards Katrina reconstruction! There were 85 or 86 who voted against it -- Democrats and Republicans both -- now there's a real collection of irresponsible scumbags!

I hope the plant is not what it looks like. It looks like purple loosestrife - a very invasive, thirsty plant that invades our wetlands and produces millions of seeds which are spread by birds.

I have no idea what those plants are.  They are interesting, though, aren't they?

I am with you on the Katrina victims and how they spend the money they get.  Who knows what they need in order to make themselves feel OK?

Check out Mexican Sage, and see if it the same as your picture.  It looks like it to me.  I have seen it (or something very much like it) being grown around here.  I saw it in late summer.

When money is given away, there will always be scoundrels around to commit fraud or to get all they possibly can.  That includes Congress.  They are all elected on the basis of what they can do for their constituents back in their respective states.  If they can't get what the people want, they won't be re-elected.  And they are  making deals with one another to get what they want.

Mexican Sage...I  have it in my front yard!  Love it as it blooms a long time and fills in the holes where other plants are not yet grown
