Hats

Did this yesterday. Love the hat and wish I could find hats that fit my head.

Part of the problem is my small head but the short hair cuts don't help. Yes I actually have a small head. My dentist always remarked I didn't have room in my mouth for all of my teeth.

I remember the days we didn't go to church without hat and gloves and stockings. I still think high heels without stockings look down right retarded.

Of course when I started wearing stockings a garter belt held them up and they had seams you fussed to keep straight. If I recall wetting a finger helped until the 'spit' dried.

While I was happy about panty hose when they came out that did not last after having children and gaining more stomach. I have a long inseam and those things would get half way and then twist! Once we moved to Texas the heat and panty hose made them the top of my "no hose" list. Oh I have thigh highs if it is cold and rainy. I bought a pair of those too large so they go all the way to the crotch. That's no fun either.

But I am glad I never had to wear the victorian dresses and petticoats and hoops. Though I had a hoop type crinoline worn under my wedding dress. Crinoline's what fun those were when those were in style. Don't sit on the edge of one unless you planned on holding the front down as you sat.

I remember the scandal when nylon blouses came out. Boy you better have white white bra straps! I never had one of these blouses. My parents were very strict about their daughter's not looking like hookers. While I learned the advice that alluded to women being raped because of the way they dressed isn't based in fact, I still didn't want to become a target.

It seems the young women of today still think the more they show the sexier they will be considered. I still say they are considered trampier, not sexier. Is that old fashioned thinking? Now how on earth did I get on this subject?

Off to check my email. Cloudy sticky day here. More rain is forecasted but by Tues.

LOL, you started with hats and ended with hussies!  I think there is a balance.  Fashions have been prudish (and unreasonable) in the past and I am personally glad they are gone!  But, I think a lot of young girls have a misperception about showing flesh.  The mystery is in what is not seen!  Although rape is not motivated by dress, wolf whistles and wolfish behavior can be!  At any rate, I hate hose AND heels (they only thing they ever got my mom was bunions and surgery!)  I wish fashion was not such an issue, but for me, it becomes less and less of one as the years pass... I just like finding something reasonably priced that fits!

Heh. You're right about that last part. As my husband would say sometimes, "That's not sexy - that's just plain TRASHY."

Dear B, I am as bad as you start off talking about one thing and get carried away....I don't wear hats because I don't feel right in them. I too think that young and not so young show a bit too much, the trend over the last few years to show off ones tummy I find rather exaggerated. I have asked my male students what they think and the majority have said they do not approve. A white blouse must have white bra surely. White always is slightly see-through even if wool.

RITA.

I got a good laugh out of your post--I remember when you would be mortified if your bra staps showed !!! Now your instyle--or wearing a black bra under a white blouse--I see that all the time---and panty hose--oh lord in this Texas heat--but a funeral would come up and you would have to wear them--you used to couldnt go to a funeral in pants--I better hush Im showing my age !!!

I sold 3 hat boxes of my aunts in my garage sale--they still had the old hats in them

I think the best way to prevent bra straps showing and panty lines is to not wear them.  And while I'm at it don't wear dresses.....

Your question about the picture, how did I do it?  It is drawn in photoshop.....just digital art.  No paint or muss....easy to erase if made a mistake.

I could have written this entry (except for my big mouth and big teeth)    My sentiments exactly!!!!  I'd still like to wear a hat once in a while, but it messes up my hair.

I think I went through all those dress stages of hose, garter belt, panty hose and know thigh highs with suits (when necessary for a suit). In my job if I visit customers I must dress in a suit or a pant suit but not casual. It doesn't matter what the customer wears. Most companies think that your appearance reflects your attitude and professionalism. I agree with that. I can be somewhat casual in my work attire if no customers are in the picture. I like the casual attire but so few people have the bodies to look good in the skimpy attire. Those that do not generally just end up looking gross when they wear it. I never could wear hats because it messes up my hair! Oh well, at this age I really don't care too much what others think but I do care what I think (about my appearance to myself).

I am so glad that I am a man.   Geez,  trying to get into all that stuff and keep it together must be a bummer.

As a teener,  I loved to see those stockings with seams down the back and the very high heels they occupied.  Lusted after them of course,  Mr. Hormone Overload.

But in later years, finding out that high heels are very harmful to women  and seeing the misery that pantyhose caused Heather and our girls -- don't think I like them either.

One thing that bothers me nowadays is that girls jeans are almost down to the pubic area.    Oh,  yeah,  some of the older folks wear jeans and super high heels,  looks trashy to me.

to your good health,

Oh, how I wish I could wear hats.  I have never had one that didn't make me look retarded.  Except maybe the littl pillboxes that were popular in the Kennedy years.  This may sound racist, but it isn't.  But most black women look wonderful in hats.  And they can wear such outlandish styles. Same thing with some of their glitzy clothes.  If I wore some of those outfits I see to church, they would all think I had gone nuts!  I miss being able to dress up once in a while.  Since we go to church in the evening, everyone wears slacks--nothing dressy.  I remember when panty hose first came out.  I will never forget one man talking about them---he said "A guy needs a can opener to get through those things"!!!   lol  I never liked the garter belts, but I did have a one-piece strapless "merry widow" with garters attached.  Now, that thing was sexy!!  Only nobody ever saw it except Ken!!  lol  I always had problems finding panty hose long enough---especially when I was skinny.  I still have the same problem being too fat!  I can find them for my weight, but not my height.  Since I wear slacks most of the time now, I can get away with knee highs.

In high school we starched our crinolines so stiff they crackled when we sat down.  And one crinoline was never enough.  Did have a hoop slip for a while, but that was a problem sitting down, too, when we would forget we were using one, and the front of our skirt would start to fly up when we sat down.  But we were smart enough to wear a narrow slip under the hoop slip----just in case!

Retarded isn't the word I would have used. Re-tart-ed perhaps. That would not be a reference to the pastry.

Some of the girls I see at the aquarium are amazing!  Would not let my daughter look like that!
