Dag Nab It!

This morning was my second injection in my back. The tech could not get a vein so a light sedative could be used. He said they would do it "in there". After a short wait another person stuck their head in. Had I talked to the doctor yet? No.

Now mind I had to be there at 9 a.m. for a 9:30 appt. We hit traffic and headed another route. It had barricades so we set off for another route. Finally on the home stretch we found two lanes into one and why do people stay in the closed lane until the last minute when everyone feels sorry for them and lets them in?

We made it on time, but I wasn't on the table at 9:30.

Doc saw that no vein had been found. He said he'd just load my back up with the local. I said fine. And it was really. I had him 5 yrs. ago without a sedative, two weeks ago I did well so let's have a go.

I found the table needed holes so my breasts could drop through and I would of been more comfy. Told the gals that again and darned if the doc hadn't just walked in and thought that'd be a good idea. Yeah I never lay on my stomach.

He decided to do the facet block at the same time as the epidural. He was very good to let me know I would be feeling a stinging in my leg and to be sure to let him know when. Fat chance I would of been quiet about that!

I did learn that what I have in my left leg since my spinal fusion is NOT a neuropathy. It is a pinched nerve at L5. I found this really disheartening as the herniated disk caused problems with the sciatic nerve so how did the neuro surgeon manage to damage that nerve during the fusion? No wonder the neuro doc wouldn't use the word neuropathy all these years! But he never bothered to tell me what it was. I suppose afraid of lawsuit or something.

Think this doctor called it a radiculopathy but I'll have to ask him to write it down. I did tell him if ever I have to have some kind of surgery I do not wish to go back to the neuro surg. that did the fusion. He said he could give me a 'hint' of one to use.

I'm not saying that someone else couldn't have done the same thing. I just have no confidence now in someone who has been less than forth coming.

How many people do you suppose who had fusions found 4 yrs. later that they were basically back at square one? With added spinal level problems. Think I'd feel better if I could either punch a bag or cry. Since I had little sleep last night thanks to sinus, I'm too tired for either.

I'm  kinda leaning towards a pinched nerve that is causing all my problems with my right leg. Doctor did x-rays but won't know till he compares them to last years. If nothing shows up then next will be a cat scan, then an MRI. One of these is bound to touch base as to what is going on. All I know is it hurts really bad when I first get up from a sitting position and try to walk. I have to limp along till the pain eases up. So it could be either the sciatic nerve, bone spurs or pinched nerve!!! It's still a guessing game.

Does the epidural help at all with the pain? If so for how long? Did it hurt this time to have it done?

I do hope that you did get some relief with this treatment. I had the pain shots in the back a few years ago and they didn't work for me.

People who have trouble with their back  have a definite PROBLEM,  it seems that sometimes it can be helped and sometimes not.   Of the people I have known who have had some kind of back surgery it seems to be 50-50  --  some okay and some still having trouble.

I guess that I was lucky to be able to go to an orthopedic surgeon,  have all the scans and be told,  yes you have problems.   "If I did surgery on you, you would be on the table more than four hours, end up with a metal rod each side of your spine from the hips to the neck and I can't say that you will have pain relief.   And I shan't do surgery on a man of your age and condition."

I have been very fortunate that I have been able to exist since then and extremely fortunate that nerves involving Sciatica have not been affected YET.

Hope  you are getting some relief Sis and hope the surgeon can do some good for you - -  I don't expect that your spine is as twisted as mine,  so there is room for hope.

I've gone to a doctor here in Pittsburgh who did microsurgery (1/2 inch scar) and relieved my spinal stenosis pain almost completely...

Hope those shots gave you relief and that getting them was not too bad.
