Manifesto for the candiate of the External Secretary
External Secretary: Ken TaiHi everyone. My name is Ken Tai and I am currently a third year Psychology student. Most of you might ask what my intentions are to run for the post of external secretary as a third year student. To answer this, I would say that throughout my time at this university, the Chinese Student Society has given me a great deal, and now I believe I have the ability to give something back to the society.
The main function of the external secretary is to strengthen the relationship that the Public Relation has made with another party. This is to say that if the PR has made any informal deal with the society’s members and other parties, the external secretary’s job is then to formalize the deal in writing, ensuring the deal is being carried out. As a third year student, I have extensive network with other students from different backgrounds in the university. Moreover, I am familiar with the running of the Student Union, which in turn can help the society because the committees must maintain good relationship with the Student Union in order achieve success through their support.
It has always been a difficult job for the committee to connect with their members, especially those in the upper years. Therefore, if I have been elected, as a third year student within the committee, it certainly would help to strengthen the relationship across the year. With this in mind, next year I propose to construct a pod-cast (with the name originally coming for iPod). The show will be made available every fortnight. It would be similar to a radio broadcasting show, with the only difference is that instead of a live show, it would be a recorded mp3 version of the show, which hopefully can be easily downloaded via the internet. It would then allow members to download it and listen to it using computers or mp3 players. The show will also invite members to participate, either as a guest or an active host, and there will be a forum where members can send in any queries which would then be answered during the pod-cast. The aim of pod cast is to strengthen the relationship and create an active communication link between the committees and the members.
Another fundamental job of the external secretary is to make any venue bookings for functions to be held within the university or places outside. Being in Bath for the past three years has given me a lot of insight into organizing different venue for various functions. I am confident that such knowledge will become useful when organizing CSS events. When come to the events held by CSS, although the society holds a range of excellent events throughout the year, there will always be room for improvement. As I have attended most of the CSS events over the years, I am familiar with the operation for each function and hence able to come up with ideas for further improvement in promoting the Chinese culture whilst providing decent entertainment to all the members. Moreover, I have been actively involved in the Chinese Student Society’s Variety for past two years. Along with my passion, my aim for next year’s Variety show will not simply be putting on an average performance, but to give an unforgettable evening to all members which they would be proud of.
To conclude, the reason for me to run for the external secretary post is to give what I have gained out of the Chinese Student Society in the past three years. I would try my best to promote the Chinese culture and to bring the best events available to our members. I hope I have proven to you all that with my passion and vision, I am a suitable candidate for the post as an external secretary for CSS next year. With your support, it will allow me to give it my all for the society, so please vote for me, Ken Tai, for external secretary. Thank You
