| | Sorry for the disturbing lack of updates recently, but I have been extremely busy! Anyway, I finally found a copy of Undercurrent Blues (Benny's experiments in bebop), and it's quite interesting! I like it, and I think BG handled bop pretty well. :-) Also, a number of the songs were written by Mary Lou Williams, who wrote a lot of great stuff (BG fans will readily recognize her as the composer of "Roll 'Em").
So, who watched (or better yet, taped) The Gang's All Here on Sunday on AMC? King Benny himself is in it, and so are a bunch of showgirls dancing with bananas and disembodied singing heads floating in polka dots, but I won't get into that . . . I also taped Buck Privates. No Benny, but it has the Andrews Sisters singing "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy" and "Bounce Me Brother With A Solid Four" and a good dance group whose name I forget. I still must see all of Hellzapoppin' (I've only seen bits and pieces of it), but it's never on TV! :-(
Well, that's all for now! Hopefully all my loyal readers won't have to suffer another huge pause between postings like that last one, and don't forget to vote in the Battle of the Bands! :-D |
