Soggy Day

Dolly's outer bands have dumped quite a bit of rain on us.  I meant to check the rain guage.  I forgot.

Tomorrow the weather should be clear enough not to interfere with our plans to head to the island.  The surf is rough and the water levels are high on the island.  The kidlets have been duly warned about that.  But it should be a good day for seashell hunting.  I collect seashells so I am really looking forward to that.

Opus has a brand new apartment.  A large rubbermaid container!  I planned on getting him some climbing material (tree branches, etc) but the sogginess was prohibitive.  He has some new behaviors.   His nightly ritual is eat, poop, climb up onto my hand, sit there and groom.  Last night he groomed as normal, then began drooling, licking my hands and then rubbing his chin and neck in the possum spit.  I began to worry if dinner didn't agree with him (he's on his weaning diet now) but then I figured...this must be a possum thing.  I googled that.  And sure enough, he was scent marking his "territory."    Then, I accidently knocked down a folded sheet from a shelf above his box and it thudded against it.  I could see him napping in his "pouch" (the pocket portion of an old jacket that was consigned to the rag bin) and after the sheet hit, he was "playing possum."  It scared the fool out of him, poor baby.  It took him a few minutes to calm down and "revive."

I fueled up my van yesterday.  $135.00.  Yeah.  Ouch.

Time to fix dinner. It's time to make a big grocery shop again.  I am dreading that as well.  That's my goal for the evening:  budget friendly menu planning for next week.

I wondered if Dolly was affecting you at all....

I filled our van the other day for $84.00.... I was SOOOOOO glad we'd gotten rid of our 15 passenger van last Nov. BEFORE gas prices got so ridiculous.  However, I saw gas today for $3.87!    Unfortunately, it was way on the west side.  Gas over here is $3.93 so that's not too bad, I guess.

Glad Opus is doing so well!  How much longer til he can be re-wilded?  (Is that even a word?  )

Yay for the beach and seashells! And a day trip too! FUN!

Imagine that, possums really do play possum!

DH had to fill up the work trucks last week....All 4 of them....$165, $165, $185, and $58...thank goodness 1 of them is a mini truck! Pffft! It's not as if we've been able to raise our prices for the work we do either! GAH!

I always do lots of cassaroles and bean soups and salads when were eating cheap! It still amazes me how far chicken breasts can go when you try hard enough! LOL

It's been great to see Opus growing, I am glad someone is willing to take care of such creatures. I found some insight on one of your previous posts about how God only puts the ones we can take care of in our reach. I am sure this doesn't just apply to animals either. Thanks

Gas is expensive everywhere. When I filled up last it was $75 ($50 last year) around $1.50 a L, and I need to fill up again after our trip. Driving is starting to become a luxury

My husband says the price of gas has gone down $0.35 in San Diego while we've been gone - which makes probably makes it just under $4 a gallon - still much cheaper than in the UK. I hope alternative fuel arrives soon! Have fun at the beach - there are probably lots more shells after the storm. :O)

I am not a big fan of the Possum, but I don't like to see them as roadkill either. That was good of you to take on the responsibilty. Do you think you will release him back into the wild when he's ready?

I thought $45 for gas was bad enough. This is getting crazy.

Have a great day.

@stopthenoise64 - Yes!  He's going to be released when he's old enough (about 22 week.)

Reading that makes me just sick..My van was $80 to fill which is why we got rid of it, the car I got is very basic in comparison, but it cost me $37 to fill it last week :loveu:...what the price of fuel out there?

@seedsower - His momma was hit by a car towards the front of our road.  She was killed, as were all of his siblings.  I'll see if I can find the post.  I would never have thought a possum could be so endearing...but I sure do love that little guy!:heart1:

@MaximaBella - Honestly, I am not sure.  I think I was so shocked by the the final price that I didn't remember the exact price per gallon.  It's high...I do remember that on the island it was even higher.  REgular was $4.38/gallon.  Inland it was more around the $4 mark.
