Today I got concord grapes! And wore my wool sweater! And don't worry, I love candy corn. It's awful - sugar and mostly wax, but I admit to loving that sick stuff. And I wore my clogs with grey wool socks. And I worked my butt off. (Butt's still there, though.) And I lost a game of Scrabble. And still wanted Home, only less painfully. Evan and I cleaned and let the light and the air in, and it was good.

I love Elton John. I love his older stuff, his big glasses, the way he obviously didn't write a lot of his lyrics. Some of them he did. I remember this album from '94, and I remember hearing it eleven years ago, the first time I fell in love. I remember other songs, "Believe" and "Belfast." "Belfast" was my favorite then, but now that I'm far away and into a lighter bit of tension in my lighter moods and into the sounds of the lyrics - well, Belfast still has that... I dunno, "Latitude" is a great song. For your reading (and peut-etre listening) pleasure:
Grey London morning, wet London streets
Rain on the window, wind in the trees
It's my time to write, it's your time to call
There's something about distance that gets to us all
Dark clouds above me, little people below
All walk with a purpose with someplace to go
It's my place to paint my own selfish scene
On this cold lonely canvas, it's just the weather and me
And latitude
Fold back the morning and bring on the night
There's an alien moon
That hangs between darkness and light
Latitude between me and you
You're a straight line of distance
A cold stretch of black across blue
Latitude
Cracks in the sidewalks, dogs on the run
An old poster reading "Give us your sons"
Window frames capture moments in time
But latitude captures the heart and the mind

Dear Emily,
Just caught up since I last visited. Sounds like you had a great weekend "in the burbs". As I read, "saw The Incredibles and Alice in Wonderland with my brother, took my boys to see Serenity" Man, that's a lot of movies. How can you sit still for so long? I like to watch movies too, but I can put them on pause for an hour at a time to take a break from the chair! Concert sounds great. I used to love concerts back "in my day". In the 70s and 80s I attended concerts once or twice a month. I some some "famous" concerts too, like the "Presence" tour with Led Zeppelin where the band members (except for the drummer, Bonzo Bonham) left the stage to go eat, while Bonzo drummed for a half hour or so. (I didn't like that concert by the way.) I believe I have a Nine Inch Nails CD. I haven't collected much music in the past five or so years.
Reading about Elton "writing his lyrics" sounds strange. I was listening to him back in the 70s when I was still at home before my parents died, and Bernie Taupin always wrote the lyrics, and Elton wrote the music. Someday I want to see him in concert in Vegas, where he sometimes fills in when Celine Dion is not in town at her theater. I always heard Elton's concerts were quite colorful, although he's a bit older nowadays.

I just bought Elton's Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy (CD) on Ebay.
Reminded me of a highschool. A girlfriend is flying to Vegas this week to see him perform. Lucky, huh?
