the steady beat of a bass or snare drum,
thrumming steady time;
the rhythm guitar with its
main riff and
plays on that;
the flighty flutey things,
changing time like the wind.
There are rhythms everywhere. I feel
my heartbeat, the circa
dia, kitten's off-kilter up at 6 and nap
near me
whenever it's not dawn.
The ghosts of classic rock and folk songs
and even country and R&B,
their rhythms, mo

Me? I'm all about melody.
(Which is why Rap cannot be classified as music, btw.)
Rachelsmommy may be all about melody, but music isn't!!!!
Rap relates music & language in a way that traditional songs don't, relies on the harmonic properties of words in a way that traditional songs don't, and plays the (varying) rhythms of the lyrics against the beat of the music in a way that makes traditional songs bow their heads in shame and crawl back to the sterile concert hall.
... (I forgot to say)
Fo' SHIZZLE!
That's a beautiful poem.
