Reading Book: Jew Girl
(Just my luck – “Iron Man” was Number 1 and “Crazy Train” was Number 8. I like large chunks of both songs, actually, but there are better metal songs out there. “But that’s how it goes.”)
This morning on my drive to work I saw two grown-up geese and three or four fuzzy yellow babies walking along the sidewalk. It looked like they were having a discussion about the dangers of crossing the street on foot. I hope the family decided to walk up the hill and to begin their flying lessons from the lawn of the hospice.
There was lazing Friday night and drinking and mayhem Saturday night. Yesterday I did some laundry at my parents’ house. My dad took my brother and me to the driving range, and we hit two buckets of balls. I whacked a few decent shots – one of them even fairly long and straight – but my brother and I were making fun of the situation the whole time. As much as my dad has tried to instill the love of golf in us (and my brother especially), Andrew hates the game. Daddy hit his first dozen or so balls as Andrew and I took our time stretching. (My right arm is delightfully sore at the moment, but I’m wondering if it’s from golf or carrying groceries yesterday evening.) After we finished the first bucket of balls and had half given up, I told Andrew, “Well, that was a waste of time.” The way I said it had him giggling uncontrollably. We finally calmed down and between the two of us hit a third of the second bucket. As we were waiting for Daddy to make his final shots (most of which were excellent, by the way), an older woman walked by. She saw us on the bench and said to us good naturedly, “Well, that was a waste of time!” It was priceless.
Stephen called me about an hour before leaving work yesterday afternoon to let me know that we’d have company over for dinner. I wasn’t upset, as we had planned to grill and I was eager to meet his best friend from work and the friend’s “woman” and son. As soon as my last load of laundry was folded, I sped (only a little) home and started cleaning. Abbey Road was just finishing when Steve pulled in and gave me hugs for my good progress so far. We did a quick but thorough pass through the grocery store (forgetting only mustard, which we thought we had enough of, and a deck of playing cards). When we got home, I started the homemade barbecue sauce and put away groceries as Steve fired up the grill and vacuumed some more. The guests soon arrived with an adorable sleeping six year old boy who snoozed even when I left the tater tots in the oven too long and set off the smoke detector.
We grilled and ate and chatted, but we started too late and Nicole didn’t remember how to play Spades, so that will have to wait until another day. We had fun, I didn’t get to bed too late, and, best of all, I got the apartment mostly clean!!!I had a strange dream last night – it mixed one of the themes from Anne of Green Gables (its two immediate sequels, actually) and a little bit of autobiography. Silly boys. Maybe I’ll write about that tomorrow, if I still remember. Happy Monday!

Oh, and I like the idea of golf, but am no good at it.
i heard of Patti Smith LONG BEFORE *horses* came out, so when it did i was automatically part of her PR campaign...imagine selling Patti Smith to the Grateful Dead/Saturday Night Fever crew in high school
but i was a lot more popular in high school than i am on Xanga...recently got an invitation to the reunion of the OTHER high school in our neighbourhood
So you're getting ready to take Michelle Wei outta the picture???
Hey, random visitor and random comment ...
