Thanks for all your thoughts on the pup.    It felt good to know that people were thinking about us.

Favorite spam du jour:  "My mom caught nude on video!"

There's a dog that lives in the house behind my parents' and its bark is similar to Milly's.  That and everytime I go over there, I'm hoping to hear her collar jangle as she ambles to greet us.  Other than that, my sister and I are doing fine.

Apparently, my brother's graduation from basic training went well, too.  He has his orders to head to Monterrey, CA for language training.  Now he has his cell phone again and I'm eager to be able to talk to him whenever.

Getting my parents out of San Antonio yesterday was a bigger challenge.  They sat in the airport and watched the flights fill up, one after the other, as hordes of people tried to leave the city.  It's not like they had real tickets or anything; Daddy's few short months working for Delta Airlines secured him some nice benefits.  They eventually bought Mama a real ticket out, and though my dad didn't make it tonight (to his and his boss's chagrin), he's in the air now directly from SA to Cincy.  My husband should be there within two hours to pick him up.  He gets points.

The weekend was pretty good, despite all the fuss and craziness.  Friday night I hung out with my sister and her friends.  Then my best friend and her boy came over to play pool, and it turns out that between them they knew half the people there already.  It was a fun little time.  I slept in a LOT on Saturday, then accompanied the best friend and her mother dress shopping.  BF's boyfriend's brother is getting married in Vegas in a week, and she's going to go with him.  She needed an outfit, and we found a really pretty dress... before stuffing ourselves at a steak house.  I got the smallest sirloin they had and I still took half of everything home to the hungry boy.  After dinner, we parted ways with BF's mother and visited BF's, um, bf (BF = best friend, bf = boyfriend, I guess) at the miniature golf range where he works.  Between digging pup's grave and sitting outside for a few hours, I was half-eaten alive.  Sunday I woke somewhat early and did some reading.  When Steve woke up we went to my parents' house to do laundry and see if anything else needed to be cleaned.  My sister did an amazing job with everything (with the help of her groovy BF and bf), and we wound up eating her pizza.  My Lydia (BF) came over later with Harry Potter and the Prizoner of Azkaban movie, which Steve had just read but had never seen, and we enjoyed that and the pilot of the show Dead Like Me over ice cream, conversation, and giggles (giggles mostly between Lydia and me, not Steve).

    Spam? You poor thing...

bf? bF? Bf? BF? You're forgetting VBf (very best friend), MBf (most best friend)
VBf(f) (very best female friend, for guys), and MXbff (so glad I dumped *her*). I'm sure I missed a few.

    Oh, and steak--good most anytime.

    this might help a touch

usually to talk about a boyfriend I use boyf, leaving BF in any form (BF, Bf, bf, you catch my drift) for best friend.

and Doug forgot to mention BFF (Best Friend Forever)

That is definitely some weird spam.  Not at all crazy tasty.

I'm sorry there was so much difficulty at the airport.  Our group comes back from Nicaragua this afternoon.  I can't wait to see them.  I miss my mom and my sister.  And I know my dad got lonely.

If you do get your hair cut you should get the ten inches cut off so you can donate to locks of love!  I'd be so excited!  For you, it wouldn't even be short, I don't think.  You can even do it yourself...  there are directions on their website!  As far as people messing up your hair, I'm with you on that worry...  Anyway, I have fantasies of going to visit your brother.  I'm hoping at some point that Andrew and I will be able to drive the coast down to Big Sur.  It would great in a Six feet under, Kerouacian way.  We'd have to read it to each other on the way.  Big Sur is just south of Monterey!  I don't know if he can have visitors or anything, but it might be fun!

So sorry to hear about your dog...hope all is well...and today you would have definitely not liked Cleveland Summer - 95 degrees, and then power went out for about 12 hours

    Dear Emily,

My girlfriend Liz's dog died last week. He was real old and persnickety and he could bite without provocation. I like Liz's other dog much better. (I'm having a senior moment and can't remember either of their names though.)

Glad you had a nice weekend. Liz and I escaped to a movie theater on Sunday to beat the heat. We saw the new Superman movie, which is very true to the spirit of the 1978 film and was dedicated to both Christopher and Dana Reeve.

Cool on your brother! I hope your dad arrived smoothly. I'll read the newest post above to see. It sounds like fun and even a little exhausting. Now I am craving steak. I haven't eaten that in years!
