I got out of bed at 3:00 this morning to write some synaptic (no, not synoptic) ideas for the "novel." That's a good sign, right?
And I got my mom to sign up to do it, too! I didn't have the balls to put in my two weeks' notice at Subway last night. Partly, I was too busy stopping the bleeding on my left thumb. Silly Emily shouldn't play with knives.
Anyway, I plan on harassing my mother, using my brother's computer some evenings while she taps away in her study. If I had a laptop, too, we'd bond and throw things at each other, but this may, in fact, be the safer way - each of us tucked in a separate room with music blaring or no, incense burning or no, hot tea or coffee or booze imbibed.
I'm heading off to Champ-bana, Illinois, in about 45 minutes for a wedding rehearsal tonight (and a wedding tomorrow). Gotta get Steve out of bed and get things packed. We'll be back tomorrow night, so it's not a really long trip, but it'll be a fun one. Wish us luck in the wet weather, and send "novel" thoughts my way!
Peace and love!

MOST of MY writings occur at around that time
Once came up with the grand unified theory of everythang but was too lazy to get out of bed because the clock said three and i didn't have to leave for anywhere until the first cock crowed...LOST to world now is something more simply elegant than superstring and M-theories
Hey, you'll be in my state!
As long as you stay out of my 'state of mind' you should be fine.
Have fun.
ryc: I was thinking about the novel challenge and how I get stuck with a short story and don't go much further than that. Actually more like 3K word essays at best. So I thought one way to turn that into a novel would be to make it one character driven thing with episodes. Such as choose a character you would like to reveal or one that you want to impact lives in some way. Then tell the story from others' perspectives concerning that character. Like a confessional. As in "The first time I met...." and tell the story of their interaction with the character. Each one would allow for the character development of each confessor and each one would allow for a different voice to be cultivated. Also, eachone would allow you to play around with setting and mood and tone. It would be a kind of jumble of essays or short stories with the common tie being one character. Now that character has to be something special as with each new scenario a different side of him or her would be revealed. One scenario could foreshadow the next or another down the line.
I don't know, it's just a thought. I have a bit of ADD sometimes and it seemed to me like I could paste the bits together. Also, depending on the number of vignettes you choose you could make the number symbolic. Seasons, decades, cycles of life and the like. Sort of like an Altman movie.
