1000 Kisses
By Patty Griffin
Chief
see relatedI started the skeleton of this post Monday after I wrote my full one. Then I had this great song in my head - Patty Griffin's "Chief." I don't know much about the artist, but two friends whose musical opinions I respect brought her to me independently but near the same time. It's sort of a country-but-upbeat Joan Osborne sort of sound. It's a good one.
I remember wanting to talk about the NFL a little more - to wonder how some of the teams got in their divisions. How is Dallas East while Houston is South? There are other examples, but I don't care to go back to espn.com today to play with it. I'm excited for "the big game," though I haven't been thinking about it much. My friends and husband have kept me busy in the last couple of days.
Monday night I went to hang out with my best friend, and we had a sleepover. It's been months if not years since we last did that. A grown-up sleepover this time, where we forced ourselves to bed before midnight and got up at 7:00 to prepare for our respective jobs. There's nothing like a good friendship to make you feel at home.
I love this story (it's on altruism) and even the one below it. Rob is a great guy. I hope he doesn't mind my linking to him. He's certainly more conservative than I am, and I don't agree with most of what he says, but I do like reading intelligent ideas from all sides
I have to keep myself "fair and balanced" when all sides are promoting their personal agendas. Finally, I stole the following from the beautiful Judi.
"Before you speak, ask yourself, is it kind, is it necessary, is it true, does it improve on the silence?" - Sai Baba

Huzzah!
Oh, and the best sleepovers take place when neither of you has morning work. Then you can do other things ;)
jeopardy was fine - they don't let you know the results unless they call you for a live test
You flatter me, miss.
They left Dallas in the NFC East when they restructured a few years ago because that division had built one of the most intense and competitive histories in the NFL. Dallas vs. Washington, Giants vs. Eagles, Washington vs. Philly . . . just a whole division full of rivals. Ya can't break that up.
Houston, however, being an expansion team, got put where they geographically belonged.
RYC: I think you know how I feel about Iraq, and I support our fight in Afghanistan.
I know that you think they're two different wars, incorrect as that is. But, we each have our opinions.
Football, however, is a science. It ends in victory or defeat. That's why I love it. I probably recommend America's Game: The Epic Story of How Pro Football Captured A Nation, by Mike MacCambridge - although, any older team history (Browns, Bears, Steelers, Lions, etc.) will probably be so intertwined with the rest of the league that it will suffice.
Never heard that song, but I'll have to look it up--we seem to like lots of the same things, so I'll bet I like it too!
A grown-up sleepover--sounds like lots of fun! Too bad about work in the morning, though. . .
I'll go read the article.Glad you have been busy. It's good to be during the winter. At least it is for me.
ryc: I hope you have fun with the games!
Dear Emily,
Pressed for time, but just wanted to pop in. I appreciate that you write "skeletons" of your blogs, actually preparing them for publication as it were. However, you mentioned this in a couple of your recent entries. It sounds like there are "skeletons in your blog", like "skeletons in the closet".
And then there's the frequent use of the word 'testicles' in one of your entries.
The "20 Questions" blog reminds me of those questionnaires we used to pass around in school. Useless and time wasting on the surface, but able to draw out interesting responses. I sometimes wonder if there is just one person, locked up in a room somewhere, who composes these myriad questions day after day.
It's neat that you call visiting your friend an "adult sleepover" instead of just an "overnight visit". Shows me you're still more of a girl than a woman. (and possibly a trait to treasure in the future.)

RYC---Of course I've been manipulating language since before I met you...There is no "fair and balanced."---One of the reasons Ms Kearney kept pushing Joyce on me was because i was doing that kind of writing naturally
i dig it whenever one of my "creations" is adopted by someone else, and never take credit for MAKING people be creative...they either are or they aren't, and i just open up the doors of perception and encourage them to just do it
As for the second part---my sixth grade teacher had us read the New York Times daily for vocabulary purposes...when he saw some of my compeers taking it as gospel, he then taught us to NEVER believe in one source only
The Cowboys are from the old days when there was just East & west...how the fuck the Dolts got into the AFC is STILL a mystery to me though
RYC---Think your hubby will mind if i give you a good old fashioned bare-bottomed Catholic school spanking
???
Nigga please...too bad there ain't a LMFAO icon
Should've asked mommy dearest or your brother 'bout them doors of perception first
