    Sing We Now of Christmas
    By Christmas Revels
    see related

    These are the Mongoose (Tony) Montana 26" Men's and Women's All-Terrain Bicycles.
    We want them.
    We have not yet bought them because none of the nearby stores have them.
    We're going to call Dick's Sporting Goods back on Monday when their "bike specialist" will be in and see about test driving a similar bike.  If we like it, we're buying these and probably having them delivered to my mom's, because she tends to be home more often and we've heard horror stories about delivery.
    But, dammit, I want to get this taken care of.  It's such a gorgeous day out.  The birds are going crazy!

    It's quite possible my dad will call within the next hour and want to come over and play Guitar Hero II.

    I woke up this morning and discovered that my milk, with a date of 4.24 on it, is still good.
    I had the urge to hear a 14th century Christmas song, "The Friendly Beasts," so I turned on my iTunes and had fun with it.  Christmas, or at least holiness, in April is encouraged, right?   It'll hopefully counteract my vivid and strange dreams last night and get me back to the book I'm finally finishing.  I'm a big fan also of "Maoz Tsur," which I've sung in Hebrew and English in front of audiences.  "Les Anges de Nos Campagnes" et autres qui j'ai learned in French club are always fun.  And "Strike Up Your Instruments of Joy" is one my mama belts out at random intervals.

    Time to shower and/or do laundry and/or (but probably wait to make Steve) do dishes.

    Il est ne, le divin Enfant,
    Jouez, hautbois, resonnez, musettes;
    Il est ne, le divin Enfant;
    Chantons tous son avenement!

    1. Depuis plus de quatre mille ans,
    Nous le promettaient les Prophetes;
    Depuis plus de quatre mille ans,
    Nous attendions cet heureux temps. Chorus

    2. Ah! qu'il est beau, qu'il est charmant,
    Que ses graces sont parfaites!
    Ah! qu'il est beau, qu'il est charmant,
    Qu'il est doux le divin Enfant! Chorus

    3. Une etable est son logement,
    Un peu de paille, sa couchette,
    Une etable est son logement,
    Pour un Dieu, quel abaissement! Chorus

    4. O Jesus! O Roi tout puissant!
    Tout petit enfant que vous etes,
    O Jesus! O Roi tout puissant!
    Regnez sur nous entierement!

    Gross paraphrasing:  He is born, the Divine Christ child.  Sing and dance at his arrival.  The prophets announced him for a long time, and now we attend the joyous occasion.   He is beautiful, charming, with perfect grace.  So sweet the Baby Christ.  He was born in a stable (describes stable things).  What a small place for the Lord.  O Jesus, O King, greatest baby ever, reign over us all.

    what is it about dreamtime right now, anyway? i thought maybe it was the pizza i had for dinner, but naw. since some believe christ was born in april, i think your choice of music just fine. any time is fine for music that brings us joy, anyway, right?
    if you can wrangle it, would you have steve come over and do my dishes too? i just cant seem to manage.
    happy letter writing.

    I'm going the other way. I'm restoring a 1979 Atala Road Bike. It is gonna be really pretty, and it weighs not a thing.

    There's a Mongoose in my garage right now.  It belongs to one of my boys, either hubby or son, I can't remember who claims it.  Nice bikes!

    Wow--I remember singing that song in my high school French class!  I can still say most of the words, and I'm pretty sure of the tune.  Silly me. . .I had to sit here and sing it to myself.  Luckily, there's no one else here to suffer through my song.  I love to sing, but I'm not nearly as good as I'd like.

    Those look like very nice bikes! Excellent quality.

    I hope you get them soon. Have fun, be careful, wear a helmet and reflective clothes, and of course, load up on sunblock.

    Bikes and blessings upon blessings... I love how you fluidly move between things mundane and things sacred infusing each with the other... truly a joy to visit your blog... for it's nod to the stable yet a continuing gaze on the Child of Beauty... "He is beautiful, charming, with perfect grace." You make the ordinariness of my everyday journey so holy somehow... I'm going to have to try and find "Strike Up Your Instruments of Joy" especially if it's your Mama's song of praise! I savour the way you share your delights!

    Why is it that only guy bikes have that diamond reinforcement? Is it the process of keeping the body off the gears? And wouldn't *women* appreciate that too?

    Hmm...

    I agree on the "want it now" thing. The best thing, in some ways, about being in Europe is that things are not 24-hour. There are no drive throughs. People walk far more often than they drive. Stores are typically much smaller with fewer choices. And there is, of course, much less pressure to be, and look, rich. Combined with a health system focused on prevention, it makes for a much healthier place, though American culture creeps in a bit more every day.

    RYC: I'm going to say that any 12-year-old who is able to teach adults in the Great Temple at Jerusalem has demonstrated considerable intellect.

    I love to just read that with a light French accent as best I am able. It is fun to work the mouth that way. if that doesn't sound too strange.

    Those are great bikes! Those would last a while. Hey, I should remind you as I forgot myself when I got a new bike. The handle bars will be loose on purpose so that you can adjust them and hen tighten them with and allan wrench. Also the seat might not be tightened yet either.

    I was on the trial when I remembered that. ooof!
