  • Sisters, Sisters

I love what Boo is doing with her blog lately, so I added a new song at the top.  I couldn't find the original Rosemary Clooney doing this song from the classic movie in anything longer than a 30-second clip, so this more stylized version will have to do.

Remind me to call my own sister this weekend, too!

I've been doing some book editing all day (not mine).  It takes a loooong time because I read and consider everything, but it's also rewarding to a) read the stuff in the first place and b) think about how polished and publishable it may become after a couple of transformations.

This afternoon I'm going to the library to return a book and pick up about six more

Tomorrow is another Artist's Way meeting, then chauffeuring my husband while he gets his brakes checked out, and hopefully going to Cincy Sunday to see my C-friends.

First, I'll go help a coworker edit some real work stuff.  Let the brain drain continue!

Hey thanks for the shout out. I still have to listen to that song.

But first I want to do a little xanga search for kicks.

Hope the brakes are easily done and Cincy is a go and a blast at that!

    Dear Emily,

I can't find the song! I love Rosemary Clooney and remember watching her television show as a child.

Your remark about Bush wasn't flippant at all. PBS had a great doc on Frontline last week about our "exit strategy" in Iraq. Rumsfeld actually planned to get out soon after the invasion, but of course nobody counted on the insurgency. (Except for those of us "liberals" who remembered Vietnam and study history) Then Bush fires Rumsfeld. Hmmmm.

Hey Emily what six books did you get. I need some new ones. Judi

Have fun with the editiing.  I used to attend a weekly writers' group in town.  I always enjoyed seeing the transformations that took place over a series of edits, edits, and more edits.  Maybe "writing" should be called "editing", instead.

Thanks for the nice comment.  My husband and I have never been to Sitka, so we're looking forward to the trip.  Even though I live in Alaska, I'd love to take a cruise some day -- it's supposedly the best way to see the inside passage.

    Have a great weekend!

RYC---Lisa had asked me if she should do "Tales From the Darkside," which she was excited about because they used film and i told her sure.  i wasn't around when she got the "Angel Heart" offer so she went to Cosby, who told her the same thing i did with TFTD...but when the movie came out and she was getting heat for it he turned all moralistic on her and i've hated the motherfucker ever since

No comment on Rosemary since it'll make THIS a name-dropping fest

nothing like the flow of a little brain drain. RYC: That is Bush's current argument. He has detained some american citizens, a few for two years, some for 6, by designating them 'enemy combatants' or terrorists. Congress has not challenged him on this issue at all...

Did you have a good weekend. Judi

I'm still working on my narrative for you. Go figure it's a million pages long.

ryc: For a dyslexic who can spend (literally) a half hour on a single page, I'm astounded by how many books I own and know. Two rooms full of shelves, but I love them, the novels, the histories, and still the kids books, plus all the things on criminal justice and education. I may have to scan pages in if I need them, but that's no big deal.

It is all about finding the key, though, isn't it? It's all about proving to kids that there are many wonderful ways to tell stories, and that those are used different ways for different things. I do not think talking or radio or TV or film or even video games are "lesser" storytelling devices than books, but they are different. And "seeing" Dublin 1904 through Joyce's eyes or following Nick's eyes across Daisy's lawn or watching the murders in In Cold Blood or walking through the "Bogland" with Seamus Heaney are things you can only do in a book.

But a culture must value both education and children first, to make a difference? But I see neither in most of the US. If career and cash matter most, the rest will fall away.

    Rosemary Clooney is the bomb.

I was singing "Count Your Blessings" to my husband the other day (we were having a rough day) and he had never heard the song before!  So now we're going to be having a Christmas in July mini-celebration and renting White Christmas.

The "Sisters" as done in White Christmas was always a favourite.

ryc: I think he went over the top in a few spots in Fahrenheit 911, but then, I still think it was less slanted than Katie Couric and Matt Lauer on the same topic. I think he thought, "if they can lie one way, I'll lie the other." But Sicko is his best since the incredibly good Roger and Me. As in that film, he lets the nightmare reveal itself. That's the best kind of political argument. The best part of Sicko actually has nothing to do with care per se. It lies in the essentialness of a lack of fear to democracy.

RYC---i heard it somewhere, and then saw it on the Wiki entry for Ann Coulter.  As for old boyfriends...i never worry about a girl going back to one, once you've gone over to the dark side, there is no force like the ER force

I do love what I do just want to create something different. Off to the gym. Judi
