    * I was going to put my essay back up, and I did, for about half an hour.  There's an essay contest through the Women's Center.  It asked for papers that touched on feminism in some way and gave a couple of specific criteria.  After writing up my 117 word blurb on why my work qualified and was important, I read the form for the third time.  The contest is only open to undergraduate students.  Silly me.  So down it goes again.

In the meantime, I'm anxiously awaiting my final semester grades.  I'm done with Christmas shopping and wrapping, and I sent out four Christmas cards yesterday.  I have 16 more for Steve to sign and then 23 more to do after that.  I hope I'm not forgetting anybody.  If I am (and they send me a card), I'll just put them on the list for next year.  As I've told several people, this shouldn't be a high-stress thing.  Christmas mayhem should only be positive - a perk and not a chore.

Ooh, my boss just gave me my Christmas card and gift for the year - a nice gift certificate to one of his favorite restaurants.  What should I get him?  Some etiquette resources say I don't have to or even *shouldn't* get him anything, but I want to.  Thing is, he has everything.  I want to get him something marginally inexpensive but still tasteful and useful.  I'll probably get it from Steve's store.  Or buy a nice tin and give him some cookies Mama and I are making this weekend.  Yes, that might just do the trick.  Thanks

I am going to cut and paste it into a doc to carry to work with me tomorrow. (Sometimes I cannot forward xanga entries to work email.)It'll be easier for me to read it carefully there with more rested eyes. I look forward to it!

Glad the weekend rocked! There is said to be a Wii coming to our family Christmas gathering so I hope to find out how it works. I already bought the boys Super Mario and Sonic at the Olympics for it. I am kind of excited about that.

Paragraph 1, sentence 6: When he wrote that “he [the Father] has given birth to him in my soul” is one of many instances in which Eckhart spoke or wrote of himself as being a part of God, or even as being one with Him.  You should rewrite this sentence. I'd insert "this" or "it" after the quote.

Paragraph 2, sentences 8,9: Then as now, though, women were not allowed to be priests.  They could attend mass, but the masses were said in Latin, which women usually did not learn, and not in their vernacular tongue.  Take out the first comma before "though" in the first sentence. Women were not encouraged to read, and they were sometimes expressly forbidden from doing so, so they could not read the Bible at home, either (Lantzen 38).  To cut down on the comma use in the second sentence, take out the comma after read and the take away "they." Also, take away the comma before either. You don't need it.

Paragraph 6, sentence 13, 14: He pled that his logic may have been faulty and, ultimately, whatever the Church said on the matter was correct.  Take out the first comma. While specific things he said may have been wrong, he was ready to renounce them, but he refused to accept that he himself was a heretic. There should be a comma between "he" and "himself." I would actually remove the first comma and insert an "and" there, and remove the "but."

Paragraph 7, sentence 1, 2, 7: In a way no elite member of the Catholic Church would consider, Meister Eckhart chose to describe God in both masculine and feminine terms.  Add a comma after "in a way." Metaphorically, Eckhart claimed that the first person of the Holy Trinity, the Father, acts as only a woman can, and gives birth to the Son, the second person in the Trinity.  I would either take out the comma after "can" or if you want to keep it, take out "and" and change "gives" to giving. Other patristic authors from like the fifth century’s Origen to St. Augustine “all describe Christ as mother” (Bynum 126).  I think "from" should not be here.

I wish that I had more time to proof your essay, but I have to leave for work in 15 minutes. I'll still be at work when you turn this in today. I didn't get to read the whole thing, but most of the things I pointed out above are not necessarily errors, just suggestions. The thing I saw most in your essay was comma usage. You might just want to go through and look for places where you can remove them. I think too many commas can make a sentence very choppy. There were some instances where you didn't need a comma at all, and others where a few grammatical changes would make it uneccessary. I had a really type A poetry teacher in college who made us learn all the "rules" of comma usage. I think she was a nutter, but I've never forgotten what she drilled into our brains. heh

My weekend - well, I did the 'big food shop.'  Got a lot of silly presents!!!

I'm guessing you wanted me to read this last night?!?  Looks good.  What harmony0stars said!

I'm on duty helping my roommate with her final papers for the semester. KAK Prometheus Unbound.  I dodged reading that one when I was in college, but now I had to do it with my roommate to help her.

    I must be nuts lol

RYC: That's a kick ass idea.  I'm going to write "Abandon all hope, ye who enter here" above the doors.

Looks like your paper filled out nicely.  Puberty can be such an awkward phase for a term paper.

I did not get enough time today to look at anything but the first page. The only things I noticed there were spacing things. But that is likely because of the cut and paste job I did.

I will give it another go tomorrow! I hope you are well!

You could just make him something... like cookies or a pie or something.

I actually considered making all my coworkers little origami ornaments this year, but when I sat down and thought about it, I didn't think I'd be able to make 35 ornaments in the time I had left.

    Dear Emily,

We receive gifts from the "bosses" every year, and they don't expect gifts in return. I usually give something to the "old man" (our 85 year old CEO) that I think he will enjoy. Last year I gave him a CD of big band classics. This year I'm giving him a DVD of "Flags of Our Fathers" (He's a WWII vet.)

If you return a boss's gift, make sure it's going to be special to them, and not just something anyone would come up with (like the ubiquitous tie, unless it's got reindeers on it so he'll wear it next year in honor of you!)

I'm a bit down on those "gift cards" they sell everywhere these days that look like credit cards with store's names on them.

Happy Holidays to you and yours!

Cookies and maybe some snazzy coffee or a mug would be fairly inexpensive and useful.

Good for you getting so much done already!

Good work on your Christmas cards!  :)  Amie and I still have to get started on ours... I'll have a bunch to send out to Wyoming.  Yowsa!  Cookies are always a nice gift.   Don't worry about your grades.  You are an A+.

RYC: I love Charles deLint and I collect his books in hardcover. Look for his young adult book, Blue Girl. Excellent, just came out in paperback not too long ago. He has some children's books too, but I haven't read any of them yet. Just about anything that occurs in Newford is worth reading. I don't like his horror though, and even he says that he writes that differently and people who like his urban fantasy will probably not like his horror. But he's one of my favorite authors, and I often say that he's the best author of the twentieth century.

As for the round robin, I find it hard to believe that you could limit yourself to one sentence to get your point across, but if you think you can, okay. lol I've just never had any success writing "short" anything. heh

Ah, to be done with Christmas shopping early.
Oh yeah, and gift cards aren't worth jack--cookies are more personal, and at least you can eat them.
