    Identity - What We Are (subjective?)

    Genre - our Template Forms, our Containers, our Heuristics and Tools for shared understanding

    Imitation - "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery."  You have to "Learn your song well before you start singing" and then jump in...

    Invention - Know the genres and play with them.  Have an idea of what you are and go with it.

    Pre-Writing (known by other names) - research, jotting down notes, free-associating, sharing ideas with coworkers, family, friends (I use you all as sounding boards because I love you and value your input)

    Incubation - the time between writings or before writing; the time where your brain synthesizes things.  Some people, like Oceanstarr and my husband, can do this consciously.  They can work through complex ideas before setting anything down on paper or on the screen.  My brain doesn't have that short term memory capacity (though I should work on it, eh?).  I need notes everywhere.  I need constant connections, and I need them to be remade all the time.

    Connection --> Community
    Connection --> Love
    Love does not have to be that jealous thing between two people.
    As I told Stephen last night, though, it's a great place to start.  For two people to be so committed selflessly to each other and any other family is a feat, a miracle, unto itself.
    And then we bring OTHERS into the mix.  Other people's children, neighbors we see, neighbors we don't like, cultures we don't understand.

    I guess today's focus is on the love, the community.  I don't want to get into the propaganda I've been investigating lately that talks about The Powers That Be that feed on fear in order to Claim More Power.  And we Give it to them.

    It starts with love

    Man... that incubation stuff can be kind of overwhelming. I wish I knew how to take notes better. I'm working on a kitchen redesign now... the problem is that I don't know how to take notes. I have to finish the WHOLE concept inside my head before I can make written plans.
    My brain is full.
    Maybe I should go paint and empty a section out a little bit lol...

    Jealousy isn't love. Jealousy is fear of being hurt.

    I, like you, need notes, notes, notes for incubation.  Notes and time to work the processes out in my mind.  My memory is terrible.  TERRIBLE.  I think I wasted it all on stupid sports facts when I was a kid.  :)

    ryc: I have such an issue with Calvinism and determinism, too. Obviously personally, emotionally and spiritually, but also as a rational adult, as a thinking and feeling human person; it all seems so reductio ad absurdem, an argument maintained consistently and radically all to maintain one quality of God (sovereignty). Double predestination is especially pernicious (and just silly). Still and all, it's very upsetting, and yet is my entrepot to the church.

    I have a feeling that me reading Equus now is a really bad idea. While most of that poor, mad lad's mental terrain is beyond me, exotic, just enough overlaps my own pain and chaos to be difficult.

    LOL Hey recently, Equus was alluded to (homaged?) in another a Simpsons episode where Homer makes a scene from Equus out of Playdoh.

    You know, I might have used the new feature to reply to your comment. lol

    So THAT'S what pre-writing is. Yeah. I am a big note taking, doodler, even walking around, doing physical things.

    ok, so I got to "Heuristics" and was all like, "oooh, hey, there's a big word, neat!" and then my mind wandered while i read the rest (does your brain do that, too?) and then you were all like, "it starts with love". Whoa. Righteous! ; )

    Oh, and my brain does that thing, too, it incubates. Or rather, it's like the most jacked up supersonic version of Photoshop you ever heard of, I can just close my eyes and MAKE pictures. And then i draw them.

    You can probably tell that i went back and read your post FOR REALS this time, hehe.

    Mmm...heuristics...those're like, rules and regulations, right? I love them--good for finding viruses...
    Yeah, I NEVER write without notes, multiple browser windows, printouts, and so on ad nauseum. I think short-term writers' memory is something you have to cultivate, and not something I do well.
    Universal love might bring people together, but only hatred (or fear) can galvanize them to action in a hurry. It's easier to make fear, faster, and easier to share--people laugh at different times while watching "Titanic", for instance, but they all cry at the same time.

    I agree, on the Power of Love, and on the power of notes.
