  • "O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather......"

.....stones those who are sent to her.....

We read these words and we are confident we know what Jesus meant when He said them.
After all, we've heard them preached over and over, used in a particular contexts.

......stones those who are sent to her.....

Who was sent that they stoned?

"And they brought a woman to him who was caught in the very act of adultery..."

    They wanted to stone her.
They wanted Him to condone it, justify them and the Law as they saw it.

    Was she sent to them?
    Why?

Every day people are "sent" our way. We, who claim to be Christian, who claim to have the answers and the direct line to God.

Often we ignore them, avoid them, turn them away, or stone them with jagged words, looks, attitudes. All this while we believe we are fulfilling every jot and tittle of the law as we see it. Our religion as we see it. As we've learned it.

"If you had understood....I desire mercy and not sacrifice."

This woman was brought to Him. He showed mercy. He set the example. And taught the lesson. Showed her who God really is. Without ever preaching.

Watch today, for those who are sent.
