  • Saturday morning edit:

Wow, it must be in the air....

Maybe God's trying to get a point across:

A friend and I were once discussing dreams and he sent me something about dreams  that said sometimes the people in our dreams could actually be other sides of ourselves, whether they appear as male or female. I thought of that this morning when I woke up from a very strange and uncomfortable dream.

As you can tell from yesterday's post, I was feeling a little down. By the time I went to bed (very early) I realized I was actually feeling depressed - something I haven't felt in a very long time.

Last night I had this dream that some guy who was whiny and clingy was whining about how I hadn't invited him to my house in a long time. I told him I never did invite him, he always came uninvited. Then he started trying to seduce me, and tried the guilt trip; "you must know how I feel about you." He even cried. Ulgh!

(it's not that I mind men showing emotion; I just have a real thing about manipulation, and this was manipulation)

I remembered that discussion about dreams when I woke up and thought this guy must surely represent the depression that used to come uninvited, unwanted, clung to me like wet hair, harder to get rid of than tar.

But I'm glad I did get rid of him.

PS. I feel better this morning. Just needed a good night's sleep, and my friends.

re: your post on the 26th about doctrine vis a vis Jesus' central message of love. You are so right. Nothing could be clearer (and the Jews of Jesus' time understood this from their own teachings and scripture) than Jesus' statement that the foremost commandment (the "Prime Directive", in Trekkiespeak) is to love God completely and wholeheartedly, and the second, which He linked to the first; tho deeply, intimately love your/our neighborgoing so far as to say that all the law and prophets were summed up therein.

I could certainly relate to your dream interpretation....although I've never had one quite like that.

    blessings, Karen...Jim

What I find fascinating about ourselves is just how much we see ourselves in things like dreams, friends, and situations.  Yet, we don't realize that we're seeing ourselves.  We're just such odd and fascinating creatures.  We all do it.  It's just a part of our humaness.

Yeah, sounds likte that's what it was. Glad you're feeling better today. :sunny:

I learned that about dreams years ago and it has been very helpful. I've seen myself in so many ways thru dreams and have been able to deal with stuff because of it. I also have my own theory about vehicles in dreams. I believe they represent the way we live...our vehicle through life so-to-speak. I've come to realize a lot of things in my day-to-day life with this representation...

    Dreams...very interesting stuff.

hehe the last vehicle I dreamed about was a red sports car that sped along until it came to the end of the paved road.

    Sounds like it's time for a 4WD!
Or thinking outside the box, eh?

Jim, I think if people had understood that in the beginning, there would have been no need to come up with doctrines to "keep people in line," or to "teach people what to believe" which itself is outside the principles of love, against the principles of God.

One thing is needed. To love God. Even that in itself would be enough. Love of others would procede from it.

But it isn't what people want to do. They want to bite and devour others to prove themselves justified.

Karen...a big AMEN to your entire last comment.

Karen .. I found it interesting that Jan P. ( Laleo Cafe ) just spent his last two installments reaching the same conclusion about the core of the intent of Jesus' teaching. It's reassuring to know that prople DO get it (at least some do).

Karen, I also agree totally with your comment above. Everything has a place.....I do somewhat feel doctrines can be important....in context...however.....what Jesus taught, what Jesus said....well....He gives us the priority. It's unfortunate that people believe so deeply in doctrines that they are willing to break the most important commandment of all, to love God and to love their neighbor, to defend their "belief" or to justify "themselves". God bless you!

For me, the two doctrines I hold are these: God is, and He raised Jesus from the dead.

From there, it's just meditating on that, and I come up with - Wow, how awesome God is!

And what does His raising Jesus from the dead tell me?
God is magnificent, good, powerful, and in charge.
It tells me that there is life beyond death, life beyond the chaos and hostility in this world. It tells me that no matter what I go through here, He will be there for me. Through all, and in spite of all. And I will be with Him in the end.

In light of that, in light of knowing and experiencing His love for me, I can go on. I can let go of the pain, the anger, the past. I can forgive because I know He freely forgives me and is not condemning me for all the times I've messed up. I don't have to prove anything to anyone, because there is nothing to prove. I don't have to justify myself. I am who I am and God is okay with that.

What He asks is that I let Him love me, heal me, make me whole: show me truth about myself and the world, show me that He loves in spite of all and so can I.

That is great that you are feeling better today. Dreams can be very itneresting at times can't they? Well take care
  • lemguinsquirrel

    Hah...that's....
Well for me, that would be an unfortunate thing. It would serve to prove just how much a vile and degraded self I truly am.

Heck, who am I kidding?! It makes sense. :) At least my dreams will be honest with myself.

So far as they're not nonsensical things about squirrels dictating the world....which.....is usually the prime majority. :)
