I don't necessarily know if it's one that's hard to comply with, just one that's hard to swallow...or really understand is Hebrews 6:4-6.
A passage that sounds like there are no second chances for those who sin after conversion.
in essence everyone is screwed.
I feel like it's contradictory to other ideas in the bible that it's by grace you are saved, grace being freely given. If we are not saved by what we do, how can we be unsaved by what we do?
Actually getting people to read the NT!!
Sorry wrong week to ask me that question.
That's why I can't buy into taking every jot and tittle literally. I think that things like that are simply one man's opinion, and to be taken as such. After all, we don't even know who wrote that book. My feeling is that we should "prove all things; hold fast that which is good."
If I may offer my two cents worth: (Well I'm going to but you don't have to read.)
It's not all black and white. There are dynamics involved and you got to take each verse in context of the whole, rather than separating them out as a little rule book.
That's a big part of the confusion most people have. Remember when they were origionally written the books of the Bible were not even in verses.
Exactly.
I don't know if there is a admonition that I find hard to comply with. I guess it's the struggle of seeing what God expects of me.
"I don't see the connection. I think women get breast implants to make themselves more marketable. Women don't carve stone or cacti in the shape of breasts; I've never known a woman to name her breasts, or to take time to stroke to them to distraction for sexual stimulation."
Maybe men worship their "units" because women do it as well. After all, if a woman is willing to risk her life so that she can be more "marketable" then maybe there is something god-like about it.
I'll have to ask mine and see what he says.
I subscribed to your site. I see you ask difficult questions. I like that.

but then again, once we start picking and choosing what in the bible to believe and what to disregard, we begin to destroy the authority of the bible, or the basis of truth christians say it's built upon. There is a place that says all scripture is god-breathed and inspired. If I say that those verses in Hebrews are wrong, then who's not to say that the scriptural teachings of Jesus and who he was are not wrong also?
RE: I'm just glad you weren't mad that I was Butting in on your conversation.
you call me lord lord...
How about asking which one do I find easy to follow? Many of them are hard. The one which came immediately to mind was "love one another as I have loved you". I don't find that I can love others the way He loves me. Not all the time, not most of the time, hardly any of the time. regarding some of the comments here, I like what wingflea had to say.
Loving your enemies
Reguarding the Hebrews passage...I don't think that is what it is saying in context to the argument that the author is making. I think he is being facisious...I cite the entirety of the rest of the book where he goes on to say that Christ has perminent priesthood and has the power to save completely those who put their trust in him.
just my two cents.
Funny how a question can totally piss off the conservative side of the house, neh? They come loping out of the prairie, level a generalization, then waltz away, leaving pain and confusion and anger in their wake.
Which is why my answer to THIS question is tied between LOVE THY NEIGHBOR and TURN THE OTHER CHEEK. Say what you want to me, but do not hurt my friends, do not insult my God, do not twist scriptures to fit your own cruel view of life, and do not use an overgeneralization that will manipulate us with guilt. When that happens, it becomes really hard to turn that other cheek, because if I do, I invariably get slapped on it, and harder as well. The way Jason has been treated makes it very hard to love the people who spiritually beat him up. The way you and Amanda were treated by EMIC makes it very hard to love Terri Copeland. I HAVE TO ... but I don't want to, and just because I have to love these people doesn't mean I have to like doing it.
Just being honest. I have never admitted to being totally sanctified.
RYC: No, that isn't Trish on the motorcycle. I WISH! As in, I wish I had that bike and could get Trish to pose in a bikini on it because she has that classic 50s era figure. But she's a redhead. You'd know if it were her.
Yeah, isn't that funny about the cops? During Bike Week, the motorcops vanish into the crowds ... they don't drink on duty, but they become bikers themselves. As long as you respect the retailers and don't traffic in stolen bike parts, they'll leave you alone. A certain amount of drinking, pot and public nudity is tolerated. Daytona cops are really nice, except during race weeks ... man, you want to talk about rude and despicable people, race fans are terrible! More people are raped and killed by race fans than bikers and tourists and spring breakers put together. Race fans also don't tip well in restaurants. The cops get on edge when a race is on. Not that I blame them, considering that someone murdered Dale Earnhardt!
You post about male sexual parts and you get 50 comments.
You post about scripture and you get 18.
Tells you where our minds are, neh?
Ah, this is a good question, indeed! There's a decent few for me actually..although it's early and I'm having trouble remembering them:
Expel the immoral brother-- Wha? That's bull crap. There's no grace there at all, and doing so usually just gets the person hurt. Of course, I can see it being this way in extreme cases pehaps, but taken point-blank, I abhor it.
Woman having veils, no talking, etc-- Why should we men be so arrogant? So Eve did her screwup, that shouldn't fall along every woman. The whole submission thing is fine, as that's just another word for trying to get husband/wife to love eachother, but to put a clamp on their mouths at church? I'd rather not, as I find the women usually have quite a lot to offer.
No rebelling agaisnt governments (they're ALL God-ordained after all)-- Taken as it says, it would have been wrong for me to attack Hitler. Taking my conscious into account, Hitler would have easily been sacrificed in order to save hundreds of thousands of lives, regardless of any verse.
I do believe there's a couple more, but I must be off. Toodles.
actually, this in response to your first comment... wingfiea, ive come across that one before, a very good friend of mine was pondering the same thing.. we were both really confused, so we went to to our rabbi (more commonly known as a pastor), and the explanation he gave made a lot more sense...
pretty much, at surface level, the passage makes it sound like salvation is a one-time-thing, and that if you recieve, then renounce, you cannot recieve again, like it's some spiritual fundamental... however, my pastor's explanation centred the issue as something more interpersonal... it describes the person so stubborn that: even if God came down from the sky and flicked them in the head and gave them a patronizing "I'm here" look, they would still not give in...
theres a different story in the NT regarding a parable about a rich man and a poor man... both men die, and the rich man (in hell) says to the poor man (above) to warn raise from the dead and tell his brothers, so they do not share the same fate... the rich man is then told "even if they see the miracle of God, they will not believe"...
no, its not referring to some rule about "salvation, one time only, make it count"... theres far more biblical evidence, in the same chaper even, that contradicts with that theory... it must then be something else... thus, this description makes more sense, and is confirmable with other referrences...
hope that clears up any misconceptions...
shiningvibrantlygreen - thanks for your comment. I don't believe that salvation is a one time thing, and I recognize there is something far deeper in those verses than what the eye sees when it first reads it. I guess it has just confused me as of late.
