Peace Race

This morning I ran in the Youngstown Peace race 10K. Got up early and had a bagel and then me and the wife headed over to the race. Didnt have to leave too early since its so close. She doesnt run but decided to go. Its a point to point race and they have buses to take you start. I hung out at the finish/check in area for a little bit, saw some people I know. Talked to Suzy for a little bit, shes a usual on my groups sunday morning runs.
I took the bus over to starting are, ran into my buddy Rick. We ran a warm up, then stretched some. A pretty big crowd at the start, being its called the Peace race see more tye died shirts then most races.
The race started, I knew what to expect since I have done this race twice before and run in Mill Creek park regularly. The first 2 miles are mostly down hill so I was faster then my planned pace, mile 1 7:53, mile 2 8:17 and I think I still went out too fast and it cost me later in race.
There was more uphills the next couple miles and I felt it, mile 3 8:47. I seemed to lose concentration the next couple miles or something. Mile 4 8:51, mile 5 8:57. I had been hoping to PR but guess it wasnt my day. THe last 1.2 mile I did in 10:27, for a 53:14. After you crossed the finish line they handed everyone a tye died colored peace medalion. Guess it was there version of a finishing medal.
Not the PR I was hoping for but I think it was best I had in me today. Its my best time at this race and about a minute short of my 10K PR. Like I told my buddy after the race that I feel im more in shape to run a half or maybe a full marathon. Overall I did have a good time there today.
