Slept pretty well last night.  Well, I was told I slept well since I crashed and burned really fast and had conversations in my sleep that I don't remember having.  At least I slept and don't feel as burned today.

Last night was out Chinese New Year dinner for our school.  The company is big so there were a lot of people there.  The dinner was okay, big production but a lot of seafood and a lot of shrimp dishes which kept me from eating a lot.  It was cool though.  They gave out a lot of red envelopes (money) this year, but I didn't get any.  No big deal, I won the $10,000nt prize last year, so not winning this year was no big deal.

I have worked with my two co-teachers in the afternoon for over a year now... 12 months with Gillian and 15 with (my wife) Michelle.  They are two of my best friends here and they do so much for me that I figured they deserved something.  A lot of English teachers buy things for their co-teachers, but I kinda felt that they deserved something really nice after this amount of time. I didn't get them anything for Christmas this year mainly due to some serious Christmas blahs, so I went shopping for them yesterday.  What do you get two girls who do everything for you and help you out on a daily basis?  I had no idea either, so I just got them both one of these...

Yeah, a little expensive, but I love both those girls to death, so definitely worth it.

Today I went to a wedding at noon with Eva.  Talk about being out of place... I was the only foreigner in a 20km radius at this one.  It was cool though because the food was beyond fantastic!  One thing you have to give to the Taiwanese is that they know the true value of a good meal.  The meal began at about 1pm and ended at about 3:30.  I'll probably forget some of the foods, but here are some of the dishes...

  • Tuna and Salmon Sashimi with Jellyfish spring rolls
  • Octopus Soup (tomato and onion I think)
  • Sweet and Sour Duck
  • Calamari, Sweet Potato and Shrimp Cheese cups (food was baked in a cheese shell and topped with it as well)
  • Sesame Chicken Soup
  • Long Grain Rice with Eel
  • Shrimp salad
  • Black Rice and Red Bean Soup (dessert)
  • Orange and Chocolate Cheesecake

I think I may have missed a course or two, but I think you get the picture.  I love Taiwanese weddings.  They are a lot of fun and the food is definitely worth going for.  Also, if you are a friend of the bride, you are given a box (huge box) of cookies with the invitation.  Sometimes you get it before hand, sometimes you get it at the engagement party and sometimes at the wedding.  This time it was at the wedding and since I love cookies, I now have most of Eva's cookies here on my desk (and in my stomach).  And when I say box, I mean a box the size of about two shoe boxes filled with gourmet style cookies.  These boxes probably run minimum of about $700-$1000 each ($25-$35CAN).  Good food and cookies... so good.

Also found a Reebok outlet store today where we spent time and money shopping for things.  I had to hold back, but I ended up with a pair of shoes for $300nt ($11 CAN), a new t-shirt for $400nt ($14 CAN) and a cool Reebok bag that is perfect for my camera and other small things for $180nt ($5 CAN).  Outlet stores are amazing, but here they are insane!  Eva got a pair of Diesel shoes for $1000nt ($35 CAN).  I may have to go back, but I do recall a Nike Outlet in Xindian, so maybe that will be the next place.

Okay... enough rambling, I need to get to bed.  Kindergarten in 8 hours and I need my sleep to keep up with them.
