| | "Everyone and everything that shows up in the world of form in this universe originates not from a particle, as quantum physics teaches us, but from an energy field. That energy field can be called God, soul, spirit, or consciousness. It looks a certain way, sounds a certain way, and feels a certain way. I try to stay in harmony with what I believe it sounds and feels like."
-Dr. Dwayne Dyer
I've been intrigued over the last few days to find in my moments of channel surfing a man on public television every night. He's probably in his 60's and his head has outgrown his hair in many places, it seems. He walks around on stage and speaks in cool tones and waves his right hand around in the air in a circular motion while keeping his left hand ensconced in the pocket of his black dockers. He tells inspiring stories. He speaks about life and the difficulties we face every day. He talks about his heroes and how they overcame huge obstacles in their lives to achieve happiness. The folks attending laugh vigorously at his humor and cry when he tells heroic stories. He talks about God. He talks about Spirit. Honestly, he does quite a compelling job convincing the thousands of men and women in the auditorium that when you boil this life down, all that matters is...inspiration.
I sat here tonight watching Dr. Wayne Dyer wax philosophical, theological, and intellectual and couldn't help but be impressed at his knowledge. He ran the gammot of inspiring sources, from quoting his teacher Carl Jung to having an American Idol wannabe girl performing a rousing rendition of Don McClean's "Starry, starry night." People were touched.
That being said, this is what I know: 1) Jesus loves Dr. Wayne Dyer. 2) I love Dr. Wayne Dyer. 3) Dr. Wayne Dyer is an absolute quack. Look up psycho-babble in the dictionary and you will see his smiling face.
The reason I feel this is blogworthy is that people are buying this teaching as if God Himself had packed an auditorium and spoke to adoring fans and PBS had aired it. The problem, of course, is that he is a mere man...a deceived man at that. Nowhere in his presentation, articles, website, or interviews did he mention Jesus, not even a quote. His goal is for people to be happy and inspired. That's not the message of Jesus.
I guess I'd like to start a discussion. You can go to his website if you would like. www.drwaynedyer.com I'd like to hear your thoughts. I've shared enough of mine I think. Maybe you find similarities to this guy's message and some televangelists. Maybe you like the stories he tells. I'd like to hear some thoughts.
