MIDWEST WORLD SERIES NATIONAL RUNNER-UPS!!!

CONGRATULATIONS, CARLISLE WILDCATS, FOR EARNING
NATIONAL MIDWEST CHAMPIONSHIP RUNNER-UPS!!!

YOU ARE AWESOME!

What can we say but WOW!! The Wildcats went to Kansas City to experience something they will never forget.
On Thursday there were opening ceremonies with 140 teams and over 7000 people. Teams came from Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska and Colorado.
They participated in skill challenges for throwing, hitting and of course a dizzy bat race. They were in the parade of teams holding our Carlisle flag with pride. After the opening ceremonies the girls got some needed team bonding in the pool.
Friday came and pool play was here we went 1-1. Saturday was a rain filled day with the wait and see when we play. We got our morning game in and won 11-3. Then we played our 11am game at 7:10 pm. Luckily we won (7-1) or we would have had to play at 11:30 Saturday night.
Sunday came and we started our first game at 9:40 Sunday morning and ended at around 11pm. The girls played 5 games. We found ourselves in the losers bracket after our 3rd game but came back strong to make it to the championship game, however we came up short. Many of us got home around 2-3 in the morning but all was worth the chance to play for the championships.

For the weekend we had many great things happen on the field. On the mound we had Mary Baldwin and Maddy Hermon. Mary came away with 22 strikeouts. She faced over 120 batters for the weekend. She had one of her best games of the year facing a very good Nebraska team. She was able to only allow 10 batters for the game throwing a variety of pitches with a smile. Maddy had a great performance on the mound in our second game against the Coyote Fastpitch on Sunday. Maddy shut them down putting the Wildcats into the championship game. Mary Grace Wachal was the work horse for the team catching all games but a few innings on Friday. She had some great stops saving us from runs. She makes it look so easy.
Our defense was superb. Mallory Adams had an outstanding glove making many pop fly catches in key points on Sunday. Taylor See-Palar was unstoppable at short stealing a line drive hit and many more grounders. Annie Johnson had a quick hot glove on 3rd saving the balls and the runners. Melissa Free was like a vacuum on first not letting anything get by her. Our outfielders had more action on Sunday. One of the key catches was made by Payton Keeney in an overtime game with runners on 1st and 2nd a hard line drive pop to her to end and save the game. Madison Miller, Courtney Carr ,Maddy and Channing Johnson all got some action making great stops and getting the ball in from the outfield.

Our bats are what always comes threw. Many teams think if they get through the top of the line up they are safe but not for the Wildcat team. Top to bottom we are strong. All the girls were hitting and even bunting, some of our girls that always hit away even saw the bunt sign. Wildcats used total team work to get the job done!
Our bunt leader was Mary Grace with (5) , Maddy (4), Taylor (3), Mary (2), Annie (1), Courtney (1). The big sticks were also making the teams think twice about pitching it to us. Mary had a big bat with 9 singles and 2 triples with clearing the bases both times. Taylor came away with 8 singles and 1 triple. Plus showed her speed on the bases turning a bunt into a score. Payton turned her bat on racking up 7 singles, they never knew if she was going to slap or hit it away. Melissa had 6 singles, Mary Grace 3 singles and a triple, Madison 3 singles and a key sacrifice fly to center, Mallory and Courtney all added 3 singles a piece. Maddy and Annie came away with 2 and Channing had a big single ending the game. Our opposition did not know if we were hitting or bunting but no matter who was up to bat we knew we could score. We had a great opportunity to bat all 11 girls and we were tough 1-11.

The girls had a great year! They had many accomplishments. One of the biggest is in EVERY TOURNAMENT the Wildcats found their way to the championship game. We may not have always gotten first but they never gave up. Getting there was half the fun!!! Everywhere the girls and parents went whether it was Des Moines, Grimes, Kansas City or even the restaurants we got compliments on our team behavior and play.
Wildcats black showed everyone the true meaning of playing with pride and respect for the game. We can't say enough about how proud we are of the girls! WILDCAT BLACK ENDED THE SEASON WITH 2 FIRST PLACE TITLES AND 4 SECOND PLACE FINISHES WITH A RECORD OF 30-13. WILDCAT ATTITUDE!!!!
