another soldier dies
after a brave fight
the picture is on the screen
but all I see is you
because what if that were you?
what if you died over there?
it makes me stop
and think
my imagination runs….
someone in their truck
another bottle in their hand
loses control of the wheel
after losing control of their mind
slams into the car
smashing it
along with the driver.
unexpected death.
how would I feel
if that were you?
would anger build up inside?
could I ever say “I do forgive…”?
another school shooting
some psycho erratically puts
bullets into students.
some dead, some wounded
all affected
except me.
until I wonder
what if that student who died
trying to protect, be the hero
what if that were you?
the scenarios unravel…..my heart.
and yet,
after all this flashes through me
i will not be in fear that
one day,
it may be you.
instead, I will see that
one day,
is to be treated
like a thousand days.
each with gratitude to God
for the gift of
another day
with you.
“Lord, remind me how brief my time on earth will be.
Remind me that my days are numbered,
And that my life is fleeing away.
My life is no longer than the width of my hand.
An entire lifetime is just a moment to you;
Human existence is but a breath.
We are merely moving shadows,
And all our busy rushing ends in nothing.
We heap up wealth for someone else to spend.
And so, Lord, where do I put my hope?
My only hope is in you.” (ps. 39:4-7, nlt)
