  • Busy, busy, busy weekend

Wow.  This is probably one of the first opportunities that I have had to sit down and process what has happened the past few days!  We have been busy!  Junior Soldier Rally - our first big event - plus our first CAC meeting with one of our partnering corps...  and we have Officers Councils coming, which is at camp...   life is hectic - but good!

We had a great time at the Junior Solider Rally this past Saturday.  The kids seemed to all have a good time - and I even heard some adults had a good time - so I think that the Rally was a success.    We are glad to have one 'under our belt' and we are ready to start planning for the next thing!

Today we were in Peoria - for both worship and then a CAC meeting.  The day was good - and long - but everyone seemed to have had a good day.   I was impressed with the people at the Citadel corps...  they have a very good spirit amongst them - what a blessing!

Tomorrow, James and I head back out to camp to help finalize any last minute things for Officers Councils and have a bit of a break as well.   I will be baking cookies at my camp house...   yay .

Pray for my kids... they all seem to have got the 'coughing' bug that has been going around and we can't seem to get rid of it!  Lil James  has had it the longest and we still don't see it waning any... I even took him to the doctor last Sunday - with no help given.   Lily seems to have it the worst now and James told me that Grace was saying that she was feeling sick....  thankfully, they have tomorrow off and we have someone extra special keeping an eye on them while James and I are at Councils... and - we are only 45 minutes away, so if I need to run home, I can.

I hope you have a blessed week!
    Grace and peace.

  • Weekends...

I write the best stuff when I am in the car.  Unfortunately, I can't write it down and drive at the same time.   Perhaps I should record it...  I'm not very good at vocalizing things tho.   Blah.

We have had a good weekend.  Friday evening we let the kids play outside until dark and then let them stay up late... hoping to keep them sleeping on Saturday morning.   I had already planned to get up (fairly) early and make some Monkey Bread, scrambled eggs and sausage - what I didn't count on was that the smoke alarm would mis-fire again and wake everyone up at 7:45am!   The goofy thing goes off at strange times...  I hadn't even fired up the stove yet.    James is getting it looked at.

We had a very nice breakfast together and then got ourselves dressed and went to the school playground.   I brought my camera to try to catch some nice candid shots...  the kids asked why there were so many of Lily...  I guess I can't help it - she is so photogenic!

This picture was a great catch.  I was at the other end of the structure and was playing with my zoom.  I got lucky!

Lily loves to play with the camera as well.  We had some fun taking pictures of each other - she's getting better about not cutting off the tops of heads and such.   She is growing so much...  it's hard to believe that she's going to be in Kindergarten in a year.  She's already saying that she is 'almost 5'.  She's not quite 4 1/2 yet!

Grace surprised us with this drawing she did in her afterschool drawing class that she is taking.   She did this just from looking at a picture...   her teacher was amazed - as were James and I!    I think we will be encouraging her and her obvious gift for art.   Who would've thought we'd have an artist on our hands...

Today we were at our home corps and did the meeting for our officers while they were on vacation.   We got to focus on Candidates' (what a surprise!) and had a great number of folks to rely on for help in the meeting.   All in all it was a great day...  James preached another excellent sermon (I can't help but let him! ) and the people responded.  What a blessing.

This afternoon I had to take Lil James to the doctor... poor kid has a nasty cough, was feverish today and threw up a couple of times... the doctor said that he couldn't give him anything (I knew it!), but suggested cough medicine, Tylenol and lots of fluids.    I just hope it didn't cost me a ton of money to find that brilliant news out.

Tomorrow, James and I will be down to one vehicle...  the minivan wouldn't start this morning so we have to get it towed to the shop.   Frustrating.

We're excited about the Junior Soldier Rally this weekend!   I just hope we don't have too many bumps or hiccups...  we're trying our best to think of every possible angle before we head out Friday night...   pray for us!

    Have a great week!

  • Blast from the Past

Today we went to the Springfield corps - which for James was a huge 'blast from the past'.   He seemed to enjoy retelling stories of him as a small child - getting in trouble, getting in more trouble and when he first accepted Jesus as his savior.   There was a couple there who remembered James as a small boy and told me that they remembered him as a really good boy.   That was funny.    James enjoyed preaching in the same chapel his dad did...  I had to take pictures.

My man... he's such a gifted preacher.

    The kids...  sassy!

We like this picture.   Too cute.

While we were there this morning, we sang an oldie - from James' past - "The Butterfly Song".   I wish I could have recorded it this morning, but I did get Lily tonight... she is hilarious.  Enjoy!

He is a handsome one too!

They are all ready to go... and I am more than happy to get them out of my house!

I absolutely love this view... it is on the road that our camp is on and I get to see this view every time I drive back to Peoria.   Right now the river is still a bit high, but the view is still as lovely when it's not.

  • Serendipity...

Okay, so I found out today that my chair in my bedroom reclines.   Bonus!   And a funny one at that!

And yesterday, I found out that I get to be a model in a fashion show... and I get to wear a wedding dress!   I tried two on and thankfully, the second one fit like it was meant for me....   I will have to have someone take a picture of me in it, because it is beautiful.   It was fun playing dress-up for just a moment.

Also yesterday, James and I stumbled upon a Mexican buffet as we were driving from the bridal shop.  It was yummy!

Oh and a couple of days ago, I was invited to eat Vietnamese food with a group of ladies from work... I was hesitant, but I was pleasantly surprised at how tasty it was!  Yum!

I have been captivated by a painting that I saw at a store last week...  it has invaded my thoughts - so much that I have been back to the store three times!    When I went back the third time, I brought James... and then I saw another painting that I fell in love with.   Now I don't know what to do.

    Serendipitous.  Perhaps?

    Grace and peace.
