was seized by a sudden, insane burst of domesticity yesterday, which resulted in:

  1. $60 spent on 4 patterns, 15 yards of assorted fabrics, and various sewing notions
  2. fastidiously precise mixing together of afore-mentioned Mocha Latte cake

all the while dreaming of perfectly fitting dresses and skirts, striped Pottery Barn-esque slipcovers for kitchen chairs, and photographable layer cake. Alas, here is what actually happened:

  1. cut out dress - too small. determined to let mom make for Bethany. cut out second dress bigger. cut out skirt. could not sew either because while purchased such obscure notions as an 7 inch black zipper and 2 yards of interfacing, supposed (wrongly) that would have black thread in the house.
  2. despite following to the letter all instuctions given for cake in yuppy, glossily illustrated Foster's Market cookbook, misleadingly delicious batter began producing copious amounts of smoke as it inexplicably began rising far above the edges of the pan and consequently pouring out all over the bottom of the oven. Final product is disappointingly chewy, dense brownie-like substance which, while delicious, is not something that could be frosted and passed off as a layer cake.

"You've gotta pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and start all over again"

am off to get black thread!

Leave it to a member of the Hedrick family to make something that would, written by a mere average person, sound horribly boring. If I wrote it I would say that I messed up the cake. Of course, I can't make any cakes until my landlord replaces the oven that we had a fire in. Another story for another day...My hat's off to Tamara and Ben for making everything more colorful (as long as your language is NOT as colorful as cbass_one).
