| | There could be potential spoilers below regarding Goblet of Fire...just wanted to warn ya'll! Read ahead at your own peril...
Just returned from seeing Goblet of Fire with Lori, of course. It was quite the thrill ride. My initial impression is that I am very pleased with how the film turned out. I am sure that there are a ton of fans who are going to be upset over the omission of the Dursleys, Hermione's elf liberation movement, and more sub-stories along those lines. This movie was kind of how I viewed Pride and Prejudice last week...it hit the high (and most necessary) points of the story and the film flew by at an incredibly fast pace. This is by far the darkest film yet of the series, but also the funniest in my opinion. Radcliffe, Grint, and Watson are maturing into incredible actors and it is evident that they have a good rapport on and off the set.
A few random thoughts:
- I missed Dobby the house-elf.
- Freakiest flirting moment: Madame Maxime eating a strand of Hagrid's beard.
I mean seriously, what was up with that??!!
- I will be seriously displeased if Patrick Doyle isn't retained to score The Order of the Phoenix...I think he did a phenomenal job with GOF.
- As I said above, Radcliffe, Grint, and Watson are becoming phenomenal actors. It's been fun watching them grow up on screen.
- I missed Lupin (David Thewlis)...he'd better not be cut out of film # 5!!
- Michael Gambon is a bloody brilliant Dumbledore, I don't care what Richard Harris fans say!
- The dragon task in the TriWizard tournament was FANTASTIC!!! Loved every moment of it!
- Alan Rickman was wonderful as Snape...especially in the hysterically funny library scene (WHACK!).
- And finally, what the heck did the make-up department do with Ralph Fiennes's nose?? It was kind of hard to accept him as Voldmort because he was so obviously Ralph Fiennes...sans a nose...and with icky nasty fingernails and teeth (gross!).
- Oh, and most importantly of all, Jason Isaacs was CRIMINALLY underused in this film. This is TRAGIC, I tell you. I needed to see more of Lucius in this movie. Maybe next time (HINT?!!)...

Perhaps I'll write a better organized post later this weekend...I am pretty bushed at the moment...I need to re-read this book...now there's a good idea... |
