“Life is a tragedy for those who feel and a comedy for those who think.”
Isn’t that profound?? I received the above in a fortune cookie about a week ago and it’s been stuck in my wallet ever since then. A coworker told me she thought it was blogworthy, so there you go…the quote now has it’s two seconds of fame.
Let’s see, what else…I actually sent Christmas cards this year which is a HUGE accomplishment. However after I bought new cards this year and mailed them out I discovered unused Christmas cards bought with the best of intentions in years past (and promptly “stored”) hiding in the little-used stationary tin in my closet. So note to self: there is no need to buy Christmas cards for at least two years if the stash I found is any indication.
Christmas Eve, Momma, Jess, my brother and I went to the 11:00 pm service at my old church (which the rest of the family still attends). The turnout was the worst I’d seen in years. It was kind of weird going back as I don’t think I’ve been there for at least two years. It was nice to see a few familiar faces, but at the same time, seeing so few people at the service was a bit of a downer. It didn’t help that anymore I feel totally disconnected from the type of service at that church. I tried expressing this sentiment to my mother (badly I think) who totally didn’t get it. *sigh* Oh well, anyway this was weird – driving home Mom & I saw a HUGE possum running around in front of the house. I don’t think I’ve ever seen one alive (they’re usually roadkill whenever I happen upon one). It was kind of freaky. I was a bit concerned that the outdoor cat would get into a fight with it but evidently us driving up scared it off as Mr. K. was okay the next morning.
I mentioned a few posts ago that I saw the movie Eragon…I’m going to have to rehash that in another blog, after I finish reading the novel (which so far is a lot less funnier than the movie…just FYI). Is it just me or does the Eragon poster seem heavily influenced by the poster for Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire?

I am operating on about four hours of sleep…but I’m not complaining. I had a lot of fun hanging out with Courtney & Leah last night. We went to see We Are Marshall. I thought it was an excellent, exceedingly well-done film. Matthew McConaughey shows surprising depth in his portrayal of Coach Jack Lengyel, tasked with the enormous challenge of rebuilding Marshall’s shattered football program. (Don't mistake "surprising depth" for Oscar-worthy depth...dear ol' Matthew comes off like he's been hit one too many times in the head for about half the movie, with hilarious results -- see picture to the right...it's a good example. )
In related reading, I thought this was an excellent piece written by Mike Morehouse, the son of Gene Morehouse, a radio broadcaster killed in the plane crash that claimed the lives of the football team & coaching staff.
Coming up: favorite Christmas music this year & cool presents.
