  • "Gay People Don't Get Shot for Being Gay"

Last year, this is what I heard a group of kids on my bus say. My mouth dropped open when I heard this. I had nothing to say, and the ignorance just kept pouring out of their mouths. Usually I am a pretty vocal person, and I will tell people when they are wrong about things like this. But I was just astounded that they actually thought this was true, the four of them just sat there agreeing with each other. They said that "Gay people who get shot, do something else to make the person mad, people don't just shoot them for being gay." They just went on like this for a while, untill my friend, took out her ipod and rattled of a case where a young boy had been killed, because other boys thought that he was flirting with him. The group just sat there for a minute, mumbling about how that didn't ask anyone for their opinion. (Of course they didn't, they just want to stay ignorant). And Here's the part that killed me...They said that "Gay people don't deserve a day of silence, that black people should get a day of silence before gay people do." Before I "offend" anyone. Let  me say that yes there is still racism, and yes black people probably face more challenges than white people. But Homosexuals most likely face just as many challenges. And isn't there a Black history month? I respect Black History month, and I respect the Day of silence, although I do not participate in it.The least they could do is respect it, as well.
I guess my whole point is since they are complaining about people treating them and their ancestors bad and even killing them, just because they are not white, maybe they should realize that people treat gay men and women bad and even kill them, simply because they. are. gay.

I think the word I am looking for here is ....hypocrites. They are hypocrites.

I think I have wrote about this before. But I was just thinking about it tonight.

That's unbelievable. When I read stuff like this, I get really frustrated with the world...like I want to give up on mankind. But then I realize that there are plenty of people (like you and me) who know better and there are such better people in this world to not give up completely.

Trust me. Those kids will have their fair share of karma in the future...and you know what, it's going to be a biiiiitchhh!

    Ugh.

I read that, and my initial reaction was, "Ew. Highschoolers." Complete with an exaggerated eye-roll.

But what is really sad is that comments like that aren't limited to high schoolers. I encountered ignorant and rude people just like that all through college. And I encounter them in these few post-college months. It's really, really sad.

As stupid as this sounds, though, I'm proud of you. (Ha, I know, you have no clue who I am. But you know what I mean, right?) I'm proud that despite being barraged with idiotic opinions, you stay true to what you know to be right. Not all people are capable of that. Never lose that trait.
