Little thoughts

I was just visiting Leonidas the Usually Voluble, and he says he can't think why to write anything just now. I think I'm feeling just the same... I could have written some Xangawords over the past couple of weeks, but I just haven't felt like it. Perhaps it's the ongoing winter weather...

Ten little thoughts that have occurred to me today:

1. I wish there was an easy (non-dusty) way to make a plaster ceiling smooth when a previous owner has done a bunch of yucky stippling on it. Blech.

2. I want to bake this Kentucky jam cake recipe I found. Tasty.

3. I hate melamine and the way it can get old-looking so fast. Drr.

4. Paint-by-numbers are fun. I wish I had one to do this afternoon. *nostalgia*

5. It's so sunny today, I wish alllllll the snow would melt and it would finally be spring. Sigh.

6. There are a number of books in the house that I haven't read yet. I'll have to remedy that soon. *anticipation*

7. Dishwashers are wonderful. Yay!

8. I love to get the newspaper, but I wish it wasn't such a waste of paper. Online just isn't the same, though. Sigh.

9. Filling the backyard bird feeders is so rewarding, especially when two white-breasted nuthatches visit at once. *bliss*

10. Those squirrels may look cute now, but just wait until they start lopping the heads off my tulips in a few weeks. Grr.

Now that I look at them again, they're all kinda household things. I guess I'm still in hibernation!

ryc: I used to get sick at least once, but usually two or three times a winter, just like clockwork. I am seriously recommending low-carb to everyone who wants to feel better, not get sick as much, and/or lose weight. I know you say you have books at home you haven't read, but there's one you should look into...it's not light reading, but it's fabulous information about the history of nutrition and benefits of lower carb/unrefined food eating. It's called Good Calories, Bad Calories by Gary Taubes. Another book I'd recommend is Protein Power by Drs. Michael and Mary Dan Eades. They've also got a website and their own blogs which are very informational, which can be found at www.proteinpower.com. Anyway, that's my two cents. *steps off of soapbox*

such a pleasant thinking process..  I like the whole thought process thing... I'm going to steal your idea when I wish to post but don't have much to say :)

Hey on that first though..you could put 1/4 sheet rock over the plaster mess.  It may drop the ceiling down about a 1/2 inch depending how much goop is up there, but you would have a new flat surface to work.  The sheet rock will take some work to instal, but you can wet sand the taped edges versus dry sanding.  I always go to extremes, so depending on how large the plastered area is I would just cut the entire ceiling down and put up new sheet rock with a wooden molding border :)  I'm kinda a do it your self guy...my funds are limited and my wife is a slave driver...

We have that popcorn ceiling stuff. i hate it, its ugly, and a huge mess to remove. They say to make it wet and scrape it off. i wonder if that would work for your situation?

Regarding your comment...
Oh I love paint by number too. We have one over the mantle!

ryc~Well, it was our dinner, so I added a bunch of stuff and we were too hungry to photograph it! It was yum though.

I recently bought a paint by number for a friend. This site has a nice variety- http://www.herrschners.com/depts/dept_5661.aspx?id=5661&pc=22040421&gclid=CIL8r7nzjJICFQHbPAodQkfU-A .

Oh, heck, I can't even get motivated to write down my household thoughts. That jam cake does look interesting, though.

Jam cake?  whats that?  please dont tell me its cake with jam on it....

Hey I just noticed the Hawk... where did you see that at?  I have several on my property...

I use to have nice blue birds and other finch type of species flying around my house and yard, but a family of hawks moved in near my area.  I love hawks, but unfortunatley they chase the other smaller wildlife away .

I also noticed a very large owl frequents my property at night (i have insomnia lol) ...

@bloatedgoldfishy -

The recipe I've linked to has quite a bit of jam, actually in the batter itself! That's what makes me curious about making it... haven't done so yet though.

The Cooper's hawk is an occasional visitor to our backyard, where it usually manages to snatch a mourning dove, which it eats on the spot, leaving only inedible feathers and feet behind. We have seen it several times, but more often we see the remains of its unfortunate prey. They are beautiful hawks! I'm so glad we play host to this one sometimes.

We have had other hawks, and an owl once or twice, around our suburban place, and I'd have to say that it does have a temporary chilling effect on the bird population at our feeders. However, this only last an hour or so after each visit. Then, it's back to business as usual! We have goldfinches, house finches, white- and red-breasted nuthatches, cardinals, many kinds of sparrows, chickadees, juncos, grackles, and lots of less frequent sightings in our backyard.
